You can have this kind of troubles in everywhere.Turkey is a wonderful country and millions of tourists visit every year.if some of them had bad experiments,it won't make Turkey a "damp" counrty.
Tammy i' ve read your commend too,Alanya is one of the most beatiful areas in Turkey to have beach&sea holiday even in Europe i ' ve been there so many times. i think the man who posted the commend is quick-tempered.Alanya is not like that.

i've been to a lot of places in turkey, i can say that all in all i met with nice people, and i was luckily not disturbed. i agree that their attitude towards tourists was sometimes agressive, but i guess it depends on where exactly you go and how you act. Believe me, you can see same type of aggressive behaviour from beggers etc walking on the main streets of a major European city. I guess this genteleman was very unlucky, but this is the reason why you should always be selective on your specific vacation destinations. if you just pick a hotel from a catalog, to a place that you know nothing about, it's highly probable that you meet with these things. I said very similar things when i cam back from a vacation from Morrocco for example. If you want to see aggressive beggers, try Morrocco. I was about to be beaten by a man because i took a photo (not of him) without paying him. But this situation does not change the fact that Morrocco is a beatiful place, has beatiful panaromas, very interesting culture etc.... When i remember Morrocco, i don't remember the stupid man that disturbed me for 5 minutes, but i remember other things....

I've been to many places in Turkey, but personally I've not been to Alanya and therefore cannot tell you if it is good or not. There are other amazing cities I have visited though that are very good, such as Istanbul, Antalya, Saklikent, Fethiye, Dalyan, Myra, and Olympos. All except Istanbul are located in the South of Turkey.

This guy has obviously not been to Turkey, and has a different intention than just to share his holiday memories. There are people in this world who really hate Turkey, but never because of a holiday spent there.
You can simply email him to ask for which particular hotel/area he stayed in. See if he can be specific about it.
There are some men here who are saying some words to beautiful tourist women walking by, but never coming close to do something to them. Shop owners spitting, beach being filthy, now these are really not true..Antalya has the best beaches in the world.

Well, I have seen similar things in some parts of Turkey. I was in Alanya a couple of years ago. We (my wife and daughter) went out walking/shopping at midnight. I usually pretend to be a tourist at first, pretending not to undersand Turkish. Then I start bargaining.
At midnight I noticed a Turkish boy approaching a tourist girl who was sitting on a bench. She actually gave encouraging body signals to him. It was obvious she was looking for some casual sex. As for her taste and choice, I would not comment.
However, tourists do get harrassed and even raped in so many countries, including the so-called EU member and civilized, Europeanized (south) Cyprus.
I try not to generalize a country or people.

I go to Marmaris every year as a single mother, I wear bikinis and shorts. I haven't had any problems. That should tell it.
Though, there ARE clingy guys around, but I guess they don't dare approach me because of my tough expression, which is a conscious choice.
It seems, the question you pointed out has some valid points, told with some "artistic licence". Midnight Express, anybody? That had some valid points (if you're smuggling drugs, you go to prison and prison isnot a nice place to be) and used artistic licence, too.

You can also go to Rio de Janeiro and be raped by 5 Brazilians guys, and they also shot you and your boyfriend if you try to resist...And of course they rob all your money and jewelry...
They even make tramp to foreign tourists men, sending them beautiful brazilian girls. And in the hotel room, the tourist is killed by a gang...
This happens very often there, and Brazilians don't even fear police, because they have also automatic weapons.
And people continue to say " Oh I'd love to go to Brazil, people are so kind, girls are beautiful, people are always smiling there "
So you can judge every each country of the world...

in your profession I am sure you have met "professional complainers".these people are buying the last minute offers, the cheapest possible holidays.they are going with 5pounds in their pockets and they are expecting everybody to salute them, to respect them and to be their slave. on the other hand, they are very rude to everybody, they do not respect the
customs of the country they are visiting, they treat locals like dirt and lower people, they are disgusted with Eastern culture(and every other culture but theirs).and they are going back with the same 5pounds they brought with them.
I have met many of these people and they are not worth your time.they are going to ask compensation back home, they will be given one week free holiday ( just to shut them up) and they will be happy, how "clever" they were. and they will go to Turkey again and this time they will just love it.
please, do not be offended by people like this couple.they will always exist. it is their full time job.....
