Atheist.
I am my own boss. My conscience is my own, not the church's.

I've been both. In some ways, it was easier to be an atheist, because I was accountable to no one, and I had no worries about what happened after death. I "KNEW" that there was nothing. I also never had to worry about being stereotyped according to what a few "Christians" did, and I could laugh at their hypocrisy.
However, now, as a Christian, it's harder in some ways. I believe that I AM accountable for my actions, not just to myself and those I hurt, but to God. But it's also easier knowing that my future is in God's hands, so I have no reason to worry. And even if I'm wrong, and there is nothing after death, I've lost nothing.
Edit: As for the rude remarks from someone below me, I was an atheist for a collective amount of more than five years, and I was a skeptic from the time I was five until I was thirteen. At thirteen, I became an atheist, and remained that way until I was sixteen. Then I was Wiccan for five years, almost six. Then I was an atheist bordering on agnostic for another four nearly five years. I kind of went back and forth, until seven months ago.
Anyone who knows me well would say I am no "fundie," and I tell the truth about who I was and who I am.
If I included Pascal's wager, it was unintentional.

I am an atheist because there are no valid reasons to believe that a personal god exists.
Christianity, like all other religions, is a stone age myth that was created by people who had a poor understanding of the world and universe and wanted to find a way to explain it.
With advances in science, we no longer need religion to attempt to explain the natural world.
I don't know which is "easier", it's just more plausible that the christian God does not exist...so that's what I believe.

It is difficult to be of any religion and to some even more difficult to be Atheist. I'm not Atheist or Christian, but I used to be. I found that when I was an Atheist; I was constantly hounded by people of all faiths saying I would die horribly, I would go to H***, that I needed to be saved, that I was crazy and a whole lot of other things besides. I have listened to many a speech about peoples belief and was too polite to turn down an invite to Sunday mass by a friend. However, when I was drawn to my current religion, I found I was still hounded by people claiming that I was choosing the wrong path and listened to many more speeches about why it was wrong. I think that as long as their is more than one religion, it will be difficult to be of any faith and as long as there is more than one religion there will be conflict.

I guess it depends on what aspect of life you're thinking of when you say 'easier'.
In terms of 'beliefs', Christians have their rules and their God (and their image) to live up to. It seems to me that could be tough. If you don't believe me than check out the question below about 'staying pure'.
There is no consensus about how an atheist should behave or what (s)he should believe. So in my opinion that'd be easier because people aren't comparing your behaviour to how they think you ought to be.
Of course, I live in a country where atheists are accepted widely. In the US where atheists are identified (according to the University of Minnesota) as 'America’s most distrusted minority' I'm sure it's not so 'easy'.

to answer this question you have to address both sides. As a buddhist, it's not easy and it is, while being complicated and simple at the same time. Whether something is easy or not, depends on one's perception towards their beliefs and ideas, not vice versa. To answer from my perception, I'd say being an atheist is easier, because the logic is there to disprove the creator idea. Thats my reason.

Atheist is not easier, nor more difficult. It's just another way of looking at things. I know I am responsible for myself, so I hold others accountable for theirs. I don't cry over how bad an ineffable entity has been with me, I don't waste time praying to nothingness and generally I live a fuller, more adult life.

i think being christian are easier because you have your own God who will be your partner and helper. He'll lead your way to the way of righteousness.
When you are being an atheist. When you need some help, when you need a miracle ....Who you should shout to?Only God and devil who can make a miracle. When you face an uimpossible things and humans can't help you? Who you wanna pray to?

Yo cricket!
Yours is one of the most contrived pieces of drivel I've seen since the last fundy post I read in r&s.
In one shot, you've tried to build a strawman atheist who is responsible to noone, and at the same time tried to foist the elements of "pascal's wager" on us as though it had some substance or merit.
Only an intellectual pansy would make up such a story or believe it. You've never been an atheist, and your post is just another fundy "trick".

Well I think that truly comes down to your own perspective but as a person of faith, I have found that although I still have problems and heartaches, by having a belief in Jesus Christ and through prayer I have a greater peace within myself which I couldn't live without. I hope my answer has helped you in some way.....Have a great day.
