I am just wondering if anyone has has a nerve conduction studie for carpal tunnel and the result actually came back fine.. Which actually turned out to inacurate where they did actually have some kind of nerve damage in either carpal area or the ulnar area?

Yes there are NCS negative Carpal Tunnel Syndromes in which the patient has the clinical signs and symptoms of carpal tunnel yet have a negative EMG. But it may also not be Carpal Tunnel. A good way to find out would be to purchase carpal tunnel wrist splints and wear them at night for a couple of weeks to see if symptoms improve. If they do then it is likely that it is carpal tunnel.

I don't recall the percentages of accuracy or inaccuracy of nerve conduction studies or even EMGs but I did find out from someone on one of the groups I'm on who has had them before that their dr explained that it is very common for these tests to miss the damage of nerves that is ongoing, henceforth making the test inaccurate.

I'm kind of in a situation right now where I need to have at least that test done on a certain area although I know that the test could come back as being negative although I know something is going on.

The very concise history really shows up one glaring problem the EMG test at the L5-S1 along with the MRI is a nerve related, has a nerve block been localised to just the L5-S1?
