My pastor spent the last month covering this one. The major verse is (as above) Romans 13:1-2. He was repeatedly confronted by more people than for any other subject he has preached on. People needed answers because authority figures had abused them. Mental, physical and even sexual abuse had been inflected on them an one point or another in their life.

His demonstration was from Samuel 18-26. King Saul was jealous of David's popularity and wanted him dead. He tried repeatedly to have him killed or kill him himself. The appropriate response was to refuse abuse, to flee if necessary.

Over the decades I have discovered that the media paints a dark picture of every President. It boosts their ratings to put sensational stories on TV. They make a whole lot of something out of some minor detail and skip the important stuff that was a justifiable cause for the Presidents actions. They figure if they can put you on the edge of your seat then you won't change the channel. There is a whole lot of important recent history that I never got to see on the news or read in the paper. Try not to be a pawn of the media. George is probably a better president than JFK. You should have heard all the garbage the media said about President JFK while he was alive.

Romans 13:1-7
Verse 1--"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authorityexcept that which God has established."

This tells me that I am to obey and respect those who are in authority over me, whether I agree with them or not. This does not mean blind obedience, but simply that I have a responsiblity to follow the laws of the land. If those leaders in government tell me to do something contrary to what God has said, however, then with the apostle Peter, I say "We must obey God rather than men." Acts 5:29 I believe, as a Christian, that I am to use the God given intelligence given to me, and to seek help from God in discerning what is right and wrong.

Christian here, and I believe we have EVERY right to question what our politicians (even the highest ones) do, and we have the right to disagree with them.

However. I also believe that we should respect their positions. Even if I immensely disliked a senator (say, Senator Clinton), I would give her the respect that her position deserves. I would address her in person as "Senator Clinton," and I would not say any unkind words to her. And believe me when I say that I do NOT like Senator Clinton in the least. But I respect her position.

How old are you? Are you really proud to be a hippie? I was in high school, but now I want to kick my husband every time he calls me one.

I believe in giving the president all the respect he deserves. In this administration, that means I will refrain from spitting on him (should I ever have the opportunity), but that's about it.

I'm also atheist, so I hope you'll suffer my intrusion to state my personal belief on this subject:

A soldier may NEVER question the commander in chief.
This is a necessary duty for our soldiers to defend us citizens.

A citizen must ALWAYS question the commander in chief.
This is a necessary duty for we citizens to defend our soldiers.
