"Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. Whoever lieth with a beast shall surely be put to death. He that sacrificeth unto any god, save to the LORD only, he shall be utterly destroyed." (Exodus 22:18-20)
These verses attest to the power of belief as they led to the slaughter of thousands of defenseless people throughout Europe and the rest of the world.
Understand that these verses not only authorize the executions but they explicitly command them.
Verse 18 justified the burning of women in Europe judged as witches. In early America, the Salem witch trials resulted in the deaths of women and men.
Verse 19 refers to bestiality, a sin considered worthy of death. Christians used verse 20 to justify religious wars, Crusades and the slaughter of unbelievers throughout Europe. And the condemnation of heretics still goes on.

Give up. We're not converting. You give the better Muslims on this site a bad name!

And by the way, NO Christians try to rationalize the Crusades, the Inquisition, or the Salem "witch" trials any more, and we haven't for hundreds of years. Those things were the instruments of Satan, and what those people did was WRONG.

Ya, but anyone who knows anything at all about the bible knows that those commandments were fullfilled (and therefore no longer to be practiced) at the coming of Christ. It was due to repression of knowledge that later christian's followed their wicked, or misguided leaders in doing such acts. Those laws were given because that was what was required for them to not only grow, but survive as an infant culture. And yes, there still continue to be people unjustly judged by "Christians" but that is still due to ignorance to what is actually commanded. Any true sincere study of the bible will lead to a peaceful, charitable, and wise existance, whether your christian or not!

From what I've heard, that's a common mistranslation. It's actually 'Thou shalt not suffer a poisoner to live.'

Thats soo crazy i was just about to post a question on this.

Also see Leviticus 20:27
'A man or woman who is a medium or spiritist among you must be put to death. You are to stone them; their blood will be on their own heads.' "

I guess Christians only like to obey the EASY commandments of their god.

That is good information as it is important to understand history accurately. Most modern Christians tend to regard the law of Moses to be binding on Jews only and perhaps only for the period of time when they were revealed - however as you point out, this hasn't always been the case.

Maybe we should go back to stoning children to death for being disobedient too.

If those things are wrong or mistranslations then why are they still in the Bible?

Uh.... your question and the ramblings after it don't exactly correlate. I'm stymied.
