Well, I think I can answer this from experience, though before about seven months ago, I had never been a Christian.
I was, however, raised in a religious home, and I did at least PRETEND to believe, though from a very young age (five) I was asking difficult questions. When I was thirteen, I stopped having even the slightest semblance of belief.
Over the thirteen years that followed, I asked my questions, researched, and even converted to Wicca for about five years. What I discovered when I FINALLY became a Christian, was that God never left me. He was there the whole time, and all I had to do was call out to Him. I looked back over my life, and I literally saw all the times that God had been there, even though I never asked Him to be. I saw all the times that I should have died, or had other horrible things happen to me, yet I was kept safe.
The existence of God is NOT dependent on whether we believe or not. He's always there, just waiting for us to come back.

I will take exception with the word "convert". You do not convert to atheism. You stop believing. You lose your faith and go for proof. God then becomes an imaginary being like Santa or the Tooth Fairy.

that relies upon upon the way you define "convert". a young person whose mothers and fathers pound faith into his impressionable little head from the time he can walk is a sufferer of brainwashing, now no longer a convert from atheism to a non secular ideology. How approximately you employ a sprint favourite experience desirable here and assume that as quickly as we are saying "hardly every person converts from atheism to installation a believer" that we are concerning adults who're able to creating the alternative.

God is still there. If you feel God is far from you, my question is ...Who Moved? God is the ruler of the universe. If you decide to jettison Him for atheism, that is not going to effect his sovereignty at all. 2Peter 3:9 says "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance". That verse tells me 2 things: 1)God wants everyone to come to Him 2)Man has free will and He can walk away from God or never come to Him in the first place if he freely choose to.

The existence of God isn't dependent on our belief - He either exists or He doesn't. What we believe about Him has no bearing on the question.

The god dies ever so slightly. Once all believers in a god abandon it, the god dies.
