Anti-biotic and pain medication has been given as directed. Dr. Hours are closed. This is not an emergency, I just would appreciate if there is anything I could do since I just noticed it in early a.m. hours.

She had surgery on leg on Friday. She came home that evening. The inside of her leg looks like she has rubbed it on something, like an abrasion. The stitches look ok. The skin has a couple spots, one large, like the bend of the knee is where it looks red. Another smaller spot closer to the genital area.

As someone said, sounds very much like clipper rash from being shaved. You can use a light, soothing cream for it like savlon, nothing strong that will sting. It should go away on its own, and I really think the dog will not be noticing it much considering it has had orthopaedic surgery to think about!

Just don't let your dog lick the area at all, he will be introducing bacteria = infection.

This rash/spots should gradually heal, but if it appears worse, or you're worried at all, do go back to your vet or at least phone them, they should want to hear if you have any problems at al post-surgery.

The question is what did you notice ? I would tell you since I work in an Emergency Animal hospital that you should keep an eye on your pet for any sudden difference in behavior that you can report to your DR. If there is any bleeding or swelling and it worries you then you should listen to your instinct and go to an emergency facility.

need more info......

EDITS: okay then...it sounds like the skin is abraded from being shaved for the surgery. your vet can sell you something like panalog for it, or you can go to the pet store or feed store and get a tube of corona or a can of bag balm. it's antiseptic and very soothing to the skin...i even use it on my own skin. keep it off the sutured areas. very best of luck...hope your pup feels better real soon.

Your best bet would be to see if you can call an emergency clinic and ask for advice. It shouldn't cost you anything to get an opinion. :)
