First of all, wow, what a f***ed up situation right now. Here is the news link for the Iraq suicide bombing and kidnep of three U.S. soldiers.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070514/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq

According to the AP, at least 124 people killed in one day by the suicide bombing...

And the Al-Qaeda claims they kidnepped the three American soldiers... what will happen to them? Can you guess based on what has been happening in Iraq? Will they be executed? Tortured?

By the way, how long will the insurgency last? A year before, Condolizza Rice said the insurgency could last up to 10 years... this is the worst case senario. If this is true, then the U.S. would suffer high fever.

Do you really think the insurgency would last up to 10 years?

Also, the situation in Afganistan is actually getting worse. The Taliban fighters began using the tactics from Iraq, and Bin Laden is still far from being captured, and the guerrilla fighting does not seem to be over soon.

How long, do you think the war on terrorism and war on Afganistan last?

And how much impact will those above give to the American society?

Please feel free to express your thoughts.

Based on what I have read from the news article about 6~7 months ago, the U.S. was losing on the hearts&mind to the local Iraqis ( Washington Post).

The Washington Post interviewed 100 American soldiers who came back from the tour of duty, and they said Iraq is "the land of extreme".

They also said the Iraqis began distrusting the Americans, and also the American soldiers themselves were fighting with their own small war of own.

They said the Iraqis were fed up with the violence, and many of them want the Americans just leave.

The conflict will last as long as some countries/individuals are allowed to train and finance the "insurgents". be it Iran, the islamists or the drug cartels- assuming they act separately.

Will it last 10 years? maybe even more. The war in Colombia lasted longer- and now, thanks to the US Congress- it will be re-ignited. Same in the case of SriLanka.

Why should the US suffer any high fever? You have troops in Yugoslavia for almost the last 10 years- so what? All the difference being your papers don't write about the bombs in Kosovo. And maybe because even Albanians are not so stupid to become suicide bombers.

As to the US soldiers- presumably captured. I am sorry to say that IMO they are most likely dead or will die soon. I wish I am wrong about that.

How long will it final? The conflict in the two international places is the effect of ethnic, religious and political ameliorations of their societies that pass lower back centuries or longer. those are not going to end. in case you mean how long will the combating final, that relies upon on in spite of in case you're talking approximately any violence in any respect, energetic insurgency against the elected governments, or attempt against operations concerning non-indigenous troops. that's going to be a number of years earlier the interior of sight forces are sturdy sufficient, or the insurgents lose sufficient interior of sight help, for U.S. and different distant places militia forces to tug out. it truly is been shown many times that if interior of sight leaders (sheiks, tribal leaders) get entangled with determination making and local protection help for insurgents dries up very directly. regrettably, that's a type of government it truly is alien to the U.S./ecu multiparty type, and has hence no longer been supported as extensively because it would desire to have been. Even after distant places squaddies have pulled available'll in all threat be ongoing violence for years yet to come again as factions that isn't be in a position to get sufficient means in an electoral equipment attempt to apply terror and intimidation to realize their objectives.

Till we get the taliban and their leaders captured or preferably killed, I will be going to Afghanistan later this year. If I see someone setting up a IED they're dead meat. same thing for bin laden.

This is going to go on as long as we are taxed by the federal government. They say terrorism, I say what about these illegals running across the border?

If Ron Paul gets elected this all would be stopped immediately!
