If you know someone is absolutely a cohen then you can give him tithes
but since basicly all cohens have a questionable status today their is no need to give them tithes

Yes, the tithe was in effect even before the Law of Moses. Abraham gave his tithe to king Melchizedek. I have found out from personal experience, that if you are faithful in giving your tithes, God will give you what is called "the blessing". In Mal 3:10, He said I would pour you out a "blessing". Well, the "blessing" is a empowerment from God, which will enable you to be successful at what ever you do in His kingdom. The "blessing" brings prosperity with it and only those who are faithful to God will recieve it.
