My brother is graduating high school on his 19th bday, which is this Thursday. That is great, but his future may not be so great...My brother wants to go into the Marines, and go into infinitry, which basically makes him a target. It just really upsets me, because I don't want to bury a brother at the age of 19. My family isn't so pleased about it either, I want him to come to college with me, and have fun, and ENJOY life...

I can certainly understand how you feel. You are afraid of losing your brother. I lost my brother, and it's very very hard.

Your brother needs to choose his way in life. I would tell him how much you love him and are afraid for him and of losing him. Don't be afraid to cry either. Tears show real love and courage.

Then also tell him that you will respect what he decides. After all, you can't rule his life.

I hope he decides to go to college, but if not, I will be proud of him for choosing what he thinks is right. God bless our soldiers.

Your bother is a lucky guy to have such a caring sibling. You and your parents really need to try and respect his decision. The choice such as the one he has made takes a courageous and devoted individual. To subject ones self to the chaos that comes with being in the military takes a lot of thought. He must be strongly devoted in wanting to help, serve, and honor this country. The best thing to do is offer your support. Don't allow your concern to show. Keeping a positive attitude when he is deployed will have a positive effect on him. Don't deny him the chance of bettering the world. He just might be the one who can do it!

This is really hard. Perhaps your family can make a deal with him. Ask him if he attends college for about 2 years and if he feels the same way after the two years, then he can join the marines. Hopefully the war will be over by then! I understand your problem.

God Bless

Well, if he really wants to be a Marine, then it's his own decission. But if he was my brother too, I will upset.

Here's an advice. try talking to him about stuff like how your parents feel about it. Tell him he should try something else that isn't very risky and dangerous. All in all, try the using the "guilt". I dont know how, but just try.

But, if he is determined to be a MArine, then let him be. tho, it would be a big decission for him and your whole family.

Talk to him and ask him why he wants to join. He has his reasons and you need to try to understand them. I know if it was me Id try and talk my brother out of it also but at the same time you have to hear what he has to say and try to understand his decision. Once you hear it maybe you could point out some things to him. If he still wants to join you need to be supportive of him.

if he really want to go into the Marines, then you should just let him. it's his decision. i as the eldest sister among my sibblings, i had this promblems of accepting what my sisters' decisions too. i give them tips, let them think abt it. if that's what they really want then so be it. it's not like i can control them or anything. if your brother feels happy about his decision, you should be happy for him. not all the time, he had the same thinking as you. just be happy for him!
