First you need to "rip" the cd with the songs you want to burn. Next you can do then burn those songs to a blank cd. You'll need a cd ripping program and a cd burner program to do that.

Some of these programs can be found free by doing a google search. There's also programs that do both ripping and burning.

Something like Nero costs around $40.00 or so but as I said you can find good free programs to rip and burn.

You can check out the downloads section at pcworld.com or downloads.com for really good free programs.

After you've extracted (ripped) the songs from the cd, make sure you have all the songs in their entirety. Check them by playing them in a media player such as windows media player or winamp. BTW, windows media player and winamp media players are both capable of burning cd's.

If I'm correct, windows media player lets you rip and burn cd's so check that out before you do a google search. Windows media player has a limited version of Roxio which is similar to Nero. To use Roxio's full features, you have to purchase it.

A good burning software I recommend is Ashampoo Burning. It's 100% free and can be downloaded here: http://j.mp/1lAUXyk

If you want to create a DVD that works on a common DVD player, you definitely need a burning software. Copying the files of the movie as is won't work (If you do so your DVD player will not be able to play the video/movie properly). Ashampoo is a good option for every "burning need". It's reliable and professional, It can be used both for CDs and DVDs and it's very easy to use.
