My mother needs a full time caregiver and I've heard that caregivers from the Philippines are one of the best. I need to know how to petition for one and what are the requirements needed. I also need to know how long it would take to sponsor one for a visa.

If you genuinely enjoy being around old people. Are not easily embarrassed by the sight of wrinkled flesh. Can freshen a room completely in a few minutes. And have no problems changing people when they have "accidents", you should do well. You will be popular with the patients if you treat them kindly and smile when you speak to them. You will be popular with your supervisors if you take direction well, and get you assigned tasks done quickly and accurately. This is old fashioned nursing. What nursing was meant to be. Caregivers are not required to administer any medications or medical procedures. If you have empathy (and it sounds like you do because of the neighbour), and tolerance and the need to help then you should do just fine.

What difference should this make to you if they are all state paid, and not out your wallet anyway?! All you have to do for a good (or one of the best) caregivers is to have a complete criminal background check done on those who apply here in the States to your ad. And you can request the fee to have that done from your applicants as non-refundable. So why would you deny someone in the States who is either American born, Naturalized citizen, or who is here legally that could do the job just as well or better?

You can't, not unless you want to sponsor a Registered Nurse and pay him/her the prevailing wage for an RN in the United States. Even then, the paperwork is a nightmare and the expense of compliance very high.

Work visas are only available for college educated professionals in job areas where there are a lack of American applicants.

Usually it's difficult, because believe it or not... the USA does still promote having their own citizens working these jobs. They do make exceptions to certain trades that are in high demand such as RNs. Usually, if a hospital can prove to immigration that there is a nurse shortage, then they are more apt to grant a work visa. Other than that, your going to have a very hard time hiring a foreign national, unless the worker is an illegal alien.

In order for a company to sponsors a temporary worker, the company needs to prove that there are no people in the U.S. willing to do that job. How are you going to justify that you need a caregiver? You are better off hiring some one here in the U.S.

You cannot! And under the soon to be president Donald Trump policy's will promote American's first! If there is an American looking for work, that job will go to him or her before a foreign citizen. So if you are a OSW'er hoping and wishing to land a job in the United States FORGET IT! It's going to be very, very hard to do so.

You will not be able to petition for a foreign caregiver. Here are the only grounds for immigrant visa petitions:

I agree--why would you hire from the Phillipines when there are excellent caregivers here? Have you considered there may be a language barrier, cultural differences, food and hygenie differences, and temperature changes for the care-giver? Have you given this a lot of thought?

Many American citizens are qualified to do that job.Why would you have a foreign person come into the country when there are many here that could use the job to support their families?Doesn't make any sense to me.Caregiver is not a job that Americans won't do,I have been doing it for over 20 years.

You shouldn't have a problem finding a caregiver. Your problem is that you want to pay low wages so you want to sponsor someone from another country who will be grateful for the minuscule wage that you want to pay and if they get out of line you can dangle the sponsorship over their head.
Shame on you.
