Scavaevola aemula comes in white, purple to blue colors as do the scaevola x cultivars. These are common tropical annuals in the nursery trade.

S.floribunda, a tree, is one of about 40 species found outside Australia that has been assigned to Scaevola despite having terminal inflorescences. This refers to the arrangement of the flowers on the plant. The rest of Scaevola have axillary inflorescences. Buds located in the axil of a leaf, at the joint where the leaf meets the stem.

Many of the rest of the genus are determinate - the first flowers of the inflorescence to open are at the top end of inflorescence or terminal. The top flower blooms first. They are assigned to the section Xerocarpa, defined by dry exocarps and determinate inflorescences.
However, given the frequency of island colonists to show convergent evolution of such characteristics as fleshy fruits and flowers the placement of Scaevola floribunda should not be assumed without additional evidence.
