I went to college over 10 years ago, I am not sure what would tansfer over to another state, but I have a debt of $5000 so they wont release my transcript. Should I wait to enroll and focus on paying the $5000, or enroll in school and just start over?

I don't know if they will let you enroll without a transcript. In 10 years have you paid any of the loan? I hope so. It was a loan, not a gift.

Well you have to look at a couple things answering that question. First off, how many credits did you get at your other school? I mean if you only have 15 credits then it might not be worth it. The best thing would be to start fresh and work part time while at your new school, and pay down your debt at your old school at the same time. You can transfer the credits in at anytime you are in school so whether you do it now or later won't matter. You also don't want a $5000 debt following you around so it would be smart to pay it off sooner or later anyways.

If you don't pay off the debt then you'll go to another school, retake all of those classes that won't transfer, and assuming the $5000 was tuition costs, pay the $5000+/- some money all over again.

Unless the classe you took previously were for another major and you're not going to have to retake them.

Or try and get a student loan for the $5000 plus money to go back to school and you (possibly) won't have to start paying it off until you graduate.
