Look at the nursing field. It is primarily a female dominated career, but men in that field are highly sought after. My Microbiology instructor was a nurse, he basically told that class that he wrote his own ticket when he graduated because of this. My father has his RN too; calls all of the time from recruiters all over the country.

Teaching has progressed over the years but still has a female domination in its ranks.

I think that you would be fine in that field. It is in demand and you would be highly compensated for your work.

Good Luck with your choice.

For two years while I was in dental school, I was a licensed hygienist in Pennsylvania. Even though I wore a name tag with my title, I just gave up trying to tell anyone and everyone that I was NOT a dentist. They just assumed that I was, since I am male. The field is certainly dominated by women, but there is no reason a man can not do it and enjoy a successful career.

I've been out of Dental Hygiene School for about 30 years. The school here accepts from 25 to 30 applicants a year. Over the past 30 years probably 3 of those have been men.

KEITH,

THERE ARE ADMISSION ADVANTAGES TO APPLYING AS A MAN BECAUSE MOST HYGIENISTS ARE WOMEN.
AS A DENTIST I DON'T CARE IF MY HYGIENIST IS A WOMAN OR A MAN. BOTH ARE QUITE CAPABLE OF DOING A GOOD JOB, BUT IT MAKES ONE WONDER WHY ARE MOST DENTISTS MALE?
EITHER GENDER CAN DO WELL IF THEY SET THEIR HEART AND WILL TOWARD THE GOAL.

My sister in law and niece are both hygentists. I think it has been a predominantly female career. However, that's changing. If you want to do it....go for it! They make LOTS of money by the way! ;)

they seem to be mostly women but there is no reason why you shouldn't go for it! Best wishes to you on your career.
