If your dog was from show dog/championship parents, you got a good deal. A dog from show parents usually runs 1200 and up. I own two yorkies. My youngest one comes from a multi-champion father and two time champion mom. I bought her 5 years ago for 1250 and, it is was today, it would have been a fee of 2000! It is all about the bloodline, the genetic testing, etc.

The most common issues with yorkies are collapsing tracheas, dislocating knees (luxating patellas), and hypoglycemia. Here is a list of the rest of them:

Be aware that yorkies are true terriers so they are very stubborn. Housetraining can be a real challenge due to this stubborn attitude. They are extremely smart though and extremely loving.

Once all vaccinations are complete, visits are only necessary once or twice a year (depending on your vet) for routine exams and updates on the vaccinations.

BTW, there is no such thing as a "teacup". There can be a runt of the litter which is smaller than normal but the correct term for the puppy would be "tiny" or "runt" not teacup. A legitimate breeder would never call a smaller than normal dog a teacup.

P.S. If your dog is registered, be sure you get a copy of the pedigree. This is particularly nice to have if the dog is the offspring of a show/championship parent or parents.

Well, really you should have done research before buying a dog. The type of things like will it match your lifestyle, grooming, personality and so on. But since you got it already, good luck with your new pup!!

Well my friend also bought a yorkshire terrier for around 1000$ (CAD). She got it from a reputable breeder. Dogs in general don't need to go to the vet every month. But young pups get their vaccines in batches like every month or so until they're 1 year old. As they get older they need their annual vaccinations, heart worm check ups, and the occaissional examinations when things arise.

Dog food is a very important aspect to a dog's life. Make sure to stay away from gluten, wheat, dog foods. And to buy dog foods that are mostly protein. Some good brands I've heard are FROMM, Solid Gold, Orijen. Choosing the right food will in most cases save you money in the long run.

A good place to start with the basics may be going to wikipedia for some general information on yorkshire terrier breed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yorkshire_Terrier

I bought mine for $700 in Iowa but they get about $1500-2000 where I live in CA--so I think it just depends on where you are.
My yorkie has not had any health problems whatsoever (although she is still young). She seems to be quite the hardy dog. But beware that yorkies are a bit hard to potty train.
You shouldnt have to go to the vet every month. But you do need to go to get your puppy's shots. You could call a vet and ask--but I believe mine got hers starting at six, nine, and twelve weeks (please do ask your vet bc this may be different for your pup!). After that, you just need to worry about keeping the immunizations updated (about once per year). You also may want to ask your vet about spaying/neutering (which happens around 6 months). Besides that, you probably only will have to see the vet when something concerns you or in emergencies.
Good luck with everything!

Thats an ok price if it came from a good breeder and not a puppy mill...small dogs get bad teeth really fast so you need to keep them clean...get it used to its teeth being brushed or you will need to get them cleaned at the vet and it can get expensive...I have a yorkie and she is the best....they are very hard to house train so you need to stay on top of it or it will never happen...other than yearly shots and meds to fight parasites and the dog is in good health it wont need to see a vet every month...good luck and just type in yorkies and look around there are lots of sites.

Keep her teeth clean early on.Small dogs are know for loosing there teeth early. There teeth are smaller.I have seen people pay 300. and also 3,000.I have seen them in the papper for $300. and also minis which is what my neibors got and they paid $3,000 so if your happy than that is all that matters. You should go to the vet and get a check up and they will give you all the shot info. The puppy should not have to go everymonth.Make sure you or someone is going to be home for the next few days so your puppy can adjust. When I look at puppys I look in the ears and fur for ticks .Also I look at the poop in there cage to look for diaria and blood .You have to keep your eye on that because of parvo on litters. Also does the puppy look okay .Is the stomach bloated. When you pull on the skin on the neck does it go back right away.See parvo is going around. I also look at there eyes are they clear. Also when you go to the vet find out about deworming .Once you get your puppy dont walk it let make sure he gets all shots.See your puppy needs to build its immune sytem up and grow .

My family bought our yorkie for $750. The only health issues I know is that they have very short legs so they shouldn't jump up and down from your bed or couch or high surface becuasethey are at risk of hurting themselves. Our dog only goes to the vet when it's due for shots or she is sick. Here is a website that might help you.

Ok, HELL NO that is a crazy amount. Unless your rich of course, then thats your dicision. I could have gotten one for $200-300 registered with papers and even champions. IS yours like king of france or something. They need to be taken to the vet constantly for the first month or two for puppy shots, rabies shots, parvo, worms, heart worms, heart preventatives, fecal tests for other diseases and then preventatives for those diseases or treatments for those diseases if they do have them. I would have researched before, I hope you got a health guarantee with it or at least it's first puppy shots. Otherwise go get it's shots asap. Just do searches on the web on yahoo or ask. com or google about what to do like food, shots, trainig, litter training, agility if you want, and what to expect from your breed. Good Luck.
