I am an atheist myself, but I think religion helps structure society and maintain the law. I feel that athesim is the right path for me, but not for everyone.
Some people (rapists, criminals...) are unworthy of a knowledge-based society. They need a God to fear. The prison might not be as threatening as Hell.
Hence, I opt for the continuation of the myth of God.
Let the atheists enjoy their lack of belief and the ignorants dwell in fear of God. There is no need to preach atheism.
It'd bring chaos. What are your thoughts?

One thing that is evident in society - bad people will do bad things regardless of (and sometimes because of) their religion.

I think the world would be one thousand times better without religion.

I, too, am an atheist but am sorry to say that this is where our similarities end. I think that the presence of religion brings chaos, as much as its absence would. People who claim to be devout Muslims are currently wreaking havoc in the Middle East, do you not see? And there are others around the world belonging to other religions who similarly cause problems because they believe that their religion gives them the moral authority to do so. Religion has been perverted in the hands of a few who have completely destroyed it to its core. It is no longer the tool for bringing peace to the world; quite the contrary, in my opinion.

I don't think criminals need a god to fear, they need an electric chair to fear. I think the world would be a more peaceful place in the absence of religion. Almost every war in the history of wars was over religion in some way. I don't think religion will ever cease to exist because there are too many people scared of death and need the reassurance and security of after life. There are also many ready to take advantage of these sheep.

Only rapists and criminals need God? I am neither, but I am still a sinner in need of a Savior. There is chaos in the world already. How can you say anything different. however, God is still in control in the midst of the chaos. One day all this chaos will end, but it will not be because of religion or anything else, it will be because Jesus comes back for His own.

do you think Ted Bundy, a very smart criminal, was unworthy of a knowledge-based society? did he need a god to fear?

atheism is just the lack of a belief in god. it is not the lack of a belief in morals or ethics. i dont think atheism would bring chaos at all. i think fear and ignorance bring chaos.

I think it would lead to logical thinking and scientific progress. Chaos might ensue temporarily if all religion is removed instantly, but after the chaos would be a great era in human history.

So how did 186,000 assyrians die in one night...Ranged up against a smaller Hebrew force?
(Isaiah 37:36-38) And the angel of Jehovah proceeded to go forth and strike down a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the camp of the As·syr′i·ans. When people rose up early in the morning, why, there all of them were dead carcasses. 37 Hence Sen·nach′er·ib the king of As·syr′i·a pulled away and went and returned and took up dwelling in Nin′e·veh. 38 And it came about that as he was bowing down at the house of Nis′roch his god, A·dram′me·lech and Shar·e′zer, his own sons, struck him down with the sword, and they themselves escaped to the land of Ar′a·rat. And E′sar-had′don his son began to reign in place of him.

These Kings have been confirmed by archaelology.

You don't think we are in chaos right now? What is chaos? Isn't it just a word that we use to say when things are too complicated to understand? Maybe we pretend we understand and then say things are not chaotic?

The often asked question "If you don't believe in God how could you possibly have any morals?" may prove your point.
