My friend is using OS9 and needs help. Yes, I know it is dated. When it freezes, the cursor arrow turns into a little clock face. Can someone here be good enough to tell us how to get out of the freeze without having to turn off the power, Thanks much.

Very funny, Dan L. I agree with you but it's not my computer so I very well can't shoot a hole through it if I don't want my friend to shoot one through me.

Press the Command + Option + Esc keys all together. If you see a message asking you if you want to force a quit, click Yes. The Mac closes the program. Immediately afterwards, choose Special > Restart to reboot your computer.

If that doesn't work, press Ctrl + Command + the Power Button on your keyboard all together. This restarts the computer. Wait until the OS starts up and you should be back in business.

If you still get some kind of error message or your Mac doesn't restart, press Ctrl + Command + the Power Button on your keyboard all together. Then, as soon as you hear the sound from your Mac, press Shift. Hold down Shift until you see "Extensions Disabled" at the bottom of the Mac OS logo as your computer restarts. If this works, it means that some extension (a program that adds an additional capability to your Mac) is causing the problem. Sometimes there are conflicts between extensions. If you recently added some software, especially the type that adds some capability to your Mac (rather than an application like Microsoft Word), you can try to disable it.

First, you wait.
I learned to write full featured programs for the mac using C. While learning I crashed and froze that computer so many times.
If it is really frozen there is nothing else to do. Turn it off, count slowly to 10, not because you are angry (well, you are angry), but to let things reset. Then turn it on again. And wait (get angry again.) At least you had confidence it was going to be just fine. Not like this windows stuff that seems to do something different each time. If it freezes often, zap the pram. That makes it behave better.

You leave the mac frozen. While you do this you go to a store and buy a PC. You turn it on. Than you take a handgun and some ammunition. Put the ammunition inside the handgun. You proceed to put one in the chamber while pointing it at the mac. Unload. Thats the only way for sure that the freeze will never happen again. Dont believe the commmercials. PCs are better.
