We bad mouth the French for "caving in" to the Nazi war machine.

And we call them "surrender monkeys".

France and Iraq are both about the same size as Texas.

We think the French people should have put up a bigger fight against the occupying troops of the Nazis and readily condemn them for it.

But when the Iraquis are now putting up the kind of fight against occupational troops we condemned the French for not putting up, we condemn the Iraqis anyway !

You're damned if you do, damned if you don't!

What a "two faced" DOUBLE STANDARD we are applying!

Is the United States bi-polar or something?!!!

Look at the size of Algeria.

Along with other countries besides Algeria, France used to control a THIRD of Africa !!!

How could a country the size of Texas project enough power to control a third of Africa if they were just a bunch of "surrender monkeys" ???!!!!!

To use rodeo talk, they've ridden bulls we've never ridden !

Read some history people !!

French fries aren't even from France.

They originated in Belgium.

Keep striking out and showing your ignorance "FREEDOM FRIES" crowd!

Cecil Rhodes is the person the Rhodes Scholarship was established after.

Cecil is a MALE name !!!

I am a registered INDEPENDENT who used to be a registered Republican who voted for Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan (both times), and George Herbert Walker Bush the first time and Ross Perot the next time. I did not vote for Clinton either time and I did not vote for George W. Bush either time. I am over 50 and have voted in every presidential primary and every general election since 1972 when I was registered as a Democrat and voted for George McGovern.

So you are wrong on all three counts!

Keep striking out! It matches your intelligence!

I do know what bi-polar means, but a more appropriate term would be BIFURCATED LOGIC.

Does America practice a form of "bifurcated logic" ?

Oh, by the way, has America had a hemispherectomy lately ?

France spent 8 years ( 1954-1962 ), stubbornly attempting to maintain possession of Algeria. They fought a fierce war against an insurgency that included insurgents crossing the border from Tunisia, Morroco, and other countries to fight on the side of the Algerians. The most recent re-printing of the 600+ page book ( A Savage War of Peace ) by the English historian Alistair Horne about this 8-year war, is being snapped up by our commanders in the field in Iraq in order to give them a comprehensive guide of what to expect in a war against a regionalized insurgency. The people of Algeria and the rest of North Africa were well beyond the sub-Saharan Africans of long ago who only had animal skin sheilds and spears! Get real here! And get accurate while you're at it!

France did not surrender in World War I. They lost a huge percentage of their population in just 4 years. It was over 23% of their population! In just 4 years!
We never suffered anywhere near that except in our Civil War!

France isn't the only country that had its hat handed to it by by the Viet Cong !!!!

We learned our own special lesson in Vietnam that lasted up until the deluded neo-cons insisted we forget it and get in volved in another fiasco in Iraq where we are having our hats handed to us once again!

The French wisely didn't join us in this doomed venture because they had already been there and done that.

The only time Charles deGaulle was shot at was when his motorcade was riddled with bullets outside Paris when members of the French military attempted a coup because deGaulle had come to the conclusion that Algeria should be granted independence!

We are now going through an experience that France has long since been through.

They have indeed, ridden bulls that we had not yet ridden !!!!!

We are currently riding a determined bull named IRAQ and we're about to land on our tailbone !!!

Not every American thought "we" should have sent troops to fight in Vietnam, but "we" did anyway.

Not every American thinks "we" should have troops fighting in Iraq, but "we" do have troops fighting there now.

The last time I looked, the United States was very much a "we" entity.

Collective adulation as well as collective condemnation is something the popular culture of this country frequently engages in, but I am well aware there will always be dissenters.

I am just questioning the level of thinking and amount of objective research that are invested before we form our opinions.

Back in WWII people didn't think France should've put more of a fight. They understood better better than we do now the tactics and results of Blitzkrieg. You need to prepare the war you haven't fought, and since that's so difficult you usually prepare for the war you just fought. That's why France built the Maginot Line. Besides that, Belgium was a neutral country by treaty and even though Germany invaded them in WWI no one really thought they'd invade Belgium again in WWII.

Our current view of France stems mostly from what Americans perceive to be French anti-Americanism and ungratefulness for what we did in WWII to free them from German occupation.

We should not equate the insugents in Iraq to the French Resistance, however. The insurgents target civilians and mosques and markets. The French Resistance targeted German military personnel and equipment.

Yeah, France controlled parts of Africa when the African peoples were afraid of the dark & carried animal skin shields while they had firearms, big deal! They also surrendered TWICE to the Germans while having the largest army in Europe. It seems the Germans also had weapons & were NOT afraid to use them. The French also fell off the bull in SE ASIA as I recall. Got their hats handed to them by the Viet Minth. They sure have ridden the bull!!! BULL***T!!!

You use "we" waaaay too much man. We all have different opinions, and the only ones that are really r-tards are the ones that conform to the opinions of their friends/ parents/ major celebrities/ whatever.

By the way I don't think you know what bipolar means...

People can do whatever they want. Don't tell people what to do.

$100 that you're a 40 yr old democratic woman that conforms to whatever everyone says. Anyone want to challenge that?

Of course, if you ARE original, than congrats! and thank you for wasting my time. :)

Who's "we"?

Depite your "additional details," I'm still wondering who "we" is. Are you including yourself in the "we"? If so, why ask why?
Are you painting ALL of America with one brush?

My personal beef with France is that they look the other way in the face of blatant anti-semitism. I don't feel that it is a safe place to visit.
