Its called taking on the cross or mortification. A man has his friends crucify him so he can get closer to the feelings Jesus had. Sometimes naked or else with clothes. I think they also flog themselves. Does this happen? Does it work?

One does not have to hang on a cross to get a glimpse of the sufferings that Christ had to endure. Just saying that you are a Christian nowadays can open you up to a form of 'crucifixion' within itself. Just take a look around on R &S. May God Bless U.

This is man's attempt to be like Jesus! When you dig up the historical facts on Crucifixion, you will be stunned by this slow torture to death. The Romans borrowed this from its inventors - the Phoenicians. Crucifixion was designed to inflict harsh, stinging pain and shame (the victim was made naked). Nails fastened the victim to the cross then, the cross was erected to serve as both, a deterrent and a example to others. The victim was left on the cross to suffer slowly eventually, collapsing under the strain of a lack of food and water - trying not to sag down, thus suffocating under ones own, body weight.

This does happen, but I don't think in Russia. I know Malaysia and Philippines do this. Does it REALLY work, NO. Does it make some think it works, Yes. The only way to know anything about Jesus is to have the Holy Spirit dwell with in you and to be forgiven through Jesus and understand the word of God.

I'm not sure about Russia, but I know they do it in China or Japan or something like that. I don't really agree with it because it already happened to Jesus, so why does it have to happen again. I don't see how u'd get any closer to Jesus because that's nowhere near what he went through. The embarassment, the emotional and physical pain. It was alot worse when it happened to Jesus. I think if you give him your heart and your life and devote it to Him, it's as close as you can be without going to Heaven.

I wouldnt say Christians. I would say very confused people who do not understand that Christ took our burden and sin once and for all when he died on the cross.
If these people understood the true meaning of Christ's death and resurrection for their lives, they would repent of their pride and presumption in thinking they could be more holy or closer to God through their own fleshly works.
No one can ever suffer enough to bring themselves one step closer to God (nor begin to pay for one of their sins against a Holy God). It was Christ who had to pay this price.
Life throws enough suffering at those who believe on the Lord, but Christ said that His yoke is easy, and his burden is light. We are to cast our burdens upon Him, and be free from worry, guilt, shame and sin.
It is through faith in Christ that we are saved. It is through Christ alone that we can be closer to God. Attempt to do this by the volition of our own flesh is just more sin, more burden, and more worry, not less.
