Could somebody put a quote or link of it up? I'm curious to see what it actually says.

The most appropriate answer to this is given to you brother . Some people might ask this question also, as to according to Quran, 'What's in it for women if men are provided for, by over 70 virgins?'

The Qur'an, while referring to the rewards of the pious in the Hereafter, has categorically stated that.

You asked,
"Where in the qu'ran does it promise 70 virgins in heaven if you die a marter for islam?"

My reply,

Dear friend, the quran does not mention number of virgins for people who do Allah's will. It only tells they will get virgins and young boys.

see 2/25, 2/154, 3/169, 44/54, 52/20, 24, 55/56, 72, 56/17, 23, 76/19, 78/33 and many more verses.

The number of virgins is mentioned in the Hadith book by Tirmizi, which is one of the six most authentic hadith collections only second to the quran. I am not aware if it is avaliable online on any site but here is the reference anyway, you may be able to check it from a local mosque library, vol 4, chapter 21, hadith no 2687. TIRMIZI may be spelt differently eg tirmidhi or something just like qur'aan, koran etc. Tranliteration is a bit of problem.

All persons - men as well as women - shall be fully rewarded for their deeds and shall not be wronged in the least (Aal Imraan 3: 195, Al-Nisaa 4: 124, Al-Nahl 16: 97, Ghaafir 40: 40);
They shall get all that they may desire and all that they can ask for, as a first gift from God. His blessings would follow subsequently (Fussilat 41: 31); and
They - (men as well as women) - shall have perfected mates/counterparts/spouses ( Arabic: Azwajun Mutahharatun) as a reward of their deeds (Al-Baqarah 2: 25, Aal Imraan 3: 15, Al-Nisaa 4: 57).
As should be obvious from the above points, there is absolutely no difference in the reward of men and women, as it is mentioned in the Qur'an. Furthermore, it may be noted that the Qur'an has not mentioned anything about '70 huries'. The Qur'an has only mentioned 'perfected spouses/counterparts'. The numerical value of 70 is derived from a Quranic commentary by Ibn kathir.

The word virgin is actually only mentioned once in the Quran in al waqia surah 36

they don't seem at her as a god nor do they worship her. they provide her a lot admire and seem to her as a function variety. The custom became a cleaver scheme to transform pagans. Catholics have a number of Saints that symbolize a undeniable function comparable how pagans have many gods that symbolize distinctive purposes. nevertheless the relationship with Paganism is amazingly a techniques long gone, human beings nonetheless sense convenience in praying to those Saints and turning in the direction of them and God for preparation. It is not mentioned there anywhere. It does mention that they are there, but no number, no one knows how many or what they look like. They live in a type of "camp". It is however talked about in Hadiths by Prophet Mohamed (saw). It says there are virgins in heaven, it says there are trees in heaven, rivers in heaven. It says no where that any man will get 70 virgins. It is a big misunderstanding about it. Those that die for Allah do not die. They are eternal in heaven. If they die as a martyr in a true Jihad, then they are in heaven and they live forever there. There are sites online where you can read the Holy Qu'ran.

First of all, let me respond to the person quoting all the Quranic verses without having ever read the Quran. The word "Hur" is an Arabic word; it means "pure, beautiful ones". It does not mean "whore". Secondly, it does not say in the Quran about the number of virgins that will be be given to a martyr in Paradise, it is in the hadiths. The brother who said it is in Tirmizi is probably right. Also, some people say well what is in it for the women? The first (among men and women) Martyr of Islam was a woman named Summayyah - my daughter was named after her. Do you not think that Muslims believe she will be greatly rewarded for her sacrifice? Of course, she will. Does she want 70 virgins? Probably not. That is promised to men because that's is something pleasurable to them. Women will get something that is pleasurable to them - in my case, it would probably be unlimited chocolate ice cream! LOL Don't believe what non Muslim people say about Islam; it is the most beautiful religion in the world. Teena

If you study theology this idea is a little nieve. The universe is 'created' and heaven is a different reality, reprodution and marriage will not be going on in the next 'world'
Sex is in a bodily funtion we have in this life, the next life you live for ever so these funtions will no longer be needed.

There is no such quote!
You have been mislead. The 70 virgins thing is A LIE USED BY STUPID, IGNORANT, POWER HUNGRY TERRORISTS USED TO BRAINWASH NAIVE YOUNG MEN INTO COMMITING SUICIDE MURDERS. And the young men were foolish enough to fall for it. How they will pay in the end. They will receive the wrath of God, not 70 virgins.

This "70/72 virgins" that I see here on Yahoo amazes me. These "virgins" are called hoors and they are mentioned 4 places in Quran:

(1) In Surah Dukhan chapter 44, verse 54

"Moreover, We shall join them to companions
With beautiful, big and lustrous eyes."
[Al-Qur’an 44:54]

(2) In Surah Al-Tur chapter 52 verse 20

"...And We shall join them to companions, with beautiful,
big and lustrous eyes."
[Al-Qur’an 52:20]

(3) In Surah Rahman chapter 55 verse 72

"Companions restrained (as to their glances), in goodly pavilions."
[Al-Qur’an 55:72]

(4) In Surah Al-Waqiah chapter 56 verse 22

"And (there will be) companions with beautiful, big and lustrous eyes."
[Al-Qur’an 56:22]

So...it isn't mentioned in Quran.
