Solo King---??? how is us being in Iraq preventing terrorists from coming here? Seriously? Because we are in Iraq the terrorists think "Oh man...I can't bomb america...they are in Iraq..."

Krytox--I understand what you are getting at. Here is my point though. Iraq was never under the rule of terrorists. I am not saying saddam was a good guy...but he had no weapons of mass destruction, he was not harboring terrorists...terrorists are there now because america is there....

Well, not to say I agree with the war, but the concept is to protect the vast amount of natural resources (i.e. oil), from falling into the control of a government that consiste of, or is sympathetic towards terrorists. Trade routes through Iraq have also been a key asset and cause for violence in Iraq at least since WWI. During WWI, it was being fought over by German & Britain. Britain ended up as occupiers then, just as America is today.

As an Aussie it seems to me that the majority of you think you are in Iraq only for the oil. Surely you could have invented a new fuel with the money you have wasted losing so many lives there. Which means you are really only there to support the oil companies. That doesn't make sense to me so I must be wrong. Sorry.

By forcing our military to take all the hits.. I agree to a point that the U.S. is fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here.. Too bad things continuously are getting worse, more terrorists are being recruited. We can't stay there forever and things are not going to get better (obviously) as long as we stay. I feel like we're just setting ourselves up for bigger problem in the future..

because by making sure Iraq gets stable and it is not in the hands of terrorists, from which they could then plan and execute attacks against America like Afghanistan was, terrorist are then still on the run...still without a country that will harbor them and give them safe haven.. and as a result we are safer!

the best defense is a strong offense ("castle" defense does not work), so by been proactive in changing the M.E. to suit us (Democracy) we win the war against the bad guys.

this is simple people...think!

The UN isn't a governing physique with sovereignty over the U. S. or Iraq. The Iraqi government needs the U. S. there to that end it is not unlawful. i detect it wonderful that the terrorists, necessary muzzies and liberals all agree on an identical issues.

Us being there keeps them from coming here, this war whether in Iraq or any were ells isn't going away. Do you want the front line in Iraq or do you want the front line here? I bet you'd be more upset if Starbucks got fire bombed down on the corner and you couldn't get your Latte, maybe then you'd sack up and do something besides *****.

You may be right. We should move the war to US soil so that it would be cheaper, real estate prices would drop, there would be no need for gun control since everyone would have one and being a politician would not be a a lifetime career since the terrorists are able to rotate politicians in and out of office by simply blowing them up.
You may, in your own idiotic way, be on to something.

Occupying Iraq does nothing but make America the enemy of a religion, and line the pockets of George's daddy's friends

In direct answer to your question. America being occupied by American's didn't protect America. So...no.
It would be great if the President could 'disclose' all of his plans so we could honestly know what he is spending so much money on...
It's a question that is lost on all of us.

It's very good business for the military contractors. They certainly don't want the troops to leave.
