Depends on what they were doing. If they were lift ing something heavy, could be muscle strain; overuse, like teachers who write on the whiteboard all day or cleaning the ceiling, could be muscle spasm; if it came on after a stressful event, could be bursitis. If it is chronic, and seems to be located where the muscle connects to the joint, it could be fibromyaligia. If you think that might be it, check it out on the web, lots of good suggestions. Moving can also cause that kind of pain, where you are doing a lot of lifting...good luck!

if the doctor was looking at trigger points on the body all of the ones you have described including the weakness indicate a condition called Fibromyalgia. I have written an article about Fibromyalgia, but it's too large to post here. I've enclosed a link where you can read about it and learn more about this condition. If after reading this you think the person has this condition, they should see a doctor of rheumatology as soon as possible.

Don't quote me on this, but I might have an idea, and no one ever suspects it unless it's happened to them.
Is it possible they might have a herniated disk in thier upper spine or neck that's hitting the nerves that run down thier arms and shoulders?
Before this sounds crazy, this happened to me, except with my right leg. A disk in my back herniated and hit the nerve running down my right leg. The pain was horrible, and when it hurt, I couldn't move my leg. I talk to someone who had it happen with their arm. I would have it checked out.
If the pain is in thier shoulders and began to move down the arms, it makes sense, because my pain started in my hip, and right before my surgury (around 6 months later) it was in my ankles. So, keep it in mind, but don't let it scare you, it's not too common, it depends on age.

a pulled muscle, if she lifted anything heavy... does it hurt very bad???....like they are about to cry??? when i pulled my trapezoid (almost on the neck and shoulder) but i could not move it, if i did it would hurt more than it already did.... if you suspect it might be this she needs to go to the doctor... the will give her a shot that will help the pain alot!!!! and prescribe her pain relievers and muscle relaxers, it helps so much.... and tell her to also use "Ice Cold" and use heating pads and to not use that arm and muscle as much as she can... good luck!!!!
