I drink WAY too much soda. I have had a caffiene habit that orginated back in college when I woudl pull all nighters or simply stay up late b/c it was quite and I could work better. I am wanting to get off the caffiene but in all seriousness it is such a habit it is next to impossible. I reach for Mt Dew half the time without thinking about it. I drink so much that it is literally more than half my calories a day and although I am by no means fat I have gained about 10 pounds over the last 4 years. I konw that if I get off caffiene not only will I lose weight but it is likely I'll feel better about myelf and my health. Any advice suggestions etc? I'm all ears. Thanks everyone!

I had the same problem. I switched to Diet soda - not quite the same, I know, but it gives you a caffeine fix and it has zero calories. If you're trying to avoid the caffeine go for soda like Diet Sprite, Diet Sunkist, Diet A&W Rootbeer, etc. With most diet sodas (besides, in my opinion, Coke and Pepsi) you can't even tell the difference.
For a quick energy boost, try some cold sparkling water with a little lemon squeezed into it. That always wakes me up for some reason. Also, tea (hot and iced) contains caffeine but not as much as soda and coffee, and it might be a good way to wean yourself off of caffeine.

I had this problem and I was really drinking 2 - 3 sodas a day but I just decided that I need to stop and I did. It is hard at first but it really does get better. I drink juice, water, Gatorade and teas but no soda. I have now cut back on juices (since they have a lot of sugar) and I am just on water and juice every now and then. I just think that doing it cold turkey is the way to go. If you go to diet I just think that you will be hooked on that, and it does not even taste good at all. Good luck.

Gary Null, P{h D has shown that sugar now absolutely causes cancer. It is a most compelling research he has shared with the public on national radio. He has lots of books out too.

So if you keep drinking sodas, you set yourself up for cancer. That's reason enough to get off soda. Diet soda is not the answer: Aspartame ( NutraSweet) has ten percent wood alcohol as it component part. The stuff also has proven to damage vital organs.

Drink Green tea sweetened with pure white Stevia, available in a health food store, and them add a bit of lemon juice and ice.

quit cold turkey like a smoker would=tell yourself you will have more money for something nice if you don't get a bottle of pop=also tell yourself that every time you reach for a bottle of soda oh oh here comes another pound and imagine what you will look like ten years down the road if you don't quit now

Substitute something else for the soda. It has become an addition for you, so I don't know what you would have to do to kick it. Some can stop cold turkey, and others cannot.
