Yes they are shias. I am sunni Muslim and that is actually haram in Islam to do such things this is even stated in the Quran.

Shias do not go by the Quran or hadiths. This is why so many shias & sunnis fight.

I know a sunni that married into a shia family and you should hear the crazy stuff they do.

I dont know if you ever saw some people beating themselves up (they are shias) or crying at graves for religious leaders (shias again) These are both haram in Islam as well.

That is why Sunnis do not even consider shias as Muslims. A Muslim is someone who goes by the Quran and does not go against it.

In the name of Allah the most Gracious the most merciful.

Islam is above idols , pictures, statues of any kind be it the
photograph of the prophet [pbuh] it is haram and discouraged
in Islam.
Allah the almighty has commanded the Muslims to hold on to
the rope of Allah [meaning the teachings of The Quran and the ways of the prophet[obuh ] and not to be divided amoungst themselves. But unfortunately muslims have divided themselves into different sects which have devated from the
mainstream of The Islamic teachings. These deviant sects
follow the teachings of their Imams and leaders and follow
them blindly in doing so they begin to idolize and hero worship them hence you will find photographs of their
Ayatolahs and leaders as part of their lives. The prophet
Muhammad [pbuh ] warned the Muslims that on the day of
judgment The jews will be divided into 71, sects, The
Christians will be divided inti 72 sects and the Muslims will
be divided into 73 sects all of them will be thrown in hell
except those who stood on the straight path that is Practiced
Islam according the the Quran and the sunnah, the legal
ways as shown by the prophet[pbuh]

Why do some catholics carry pictures of the pope or saints?

They're not Divine and it's actually against their believes to take unto themselves a graven image.

One reason may be that they believe these people to be God's representative on Earth at the moment and therefore relish looking at such a blessed person and by looking at their image, they remember some of their words which adds comfort and strength to the experience.

Well you are right.
Islam prohibit to draw pictures of any living thing.
But Islam also prohibits extremism. The reason Islam doesnt support drawing and keeping photo is to make sure people dont go astray with time and involves in things like in Hinduism

Carrying photo for protests or things like them
And yeah blaming Shia or Sunni muslim is non sense

Both of us do that . I m Sunni and we do also do that.

I am a Christian but I am one who believes that the terrorist threat is not a Muslim issue.

It is a terrorist issue and not all terrorists are Muslim. The wide-scale idea that all Muslims are threats is incorrect, illogical and, frankly, morally reprehensible. It shows reactionary and unjust impulses.

Some terrorists say they are Muslim, etc., but that does not mean terrorism is compatible with the Muslim faith. The vast majority of Muslims are law-abiding, life-affirming people.

Fact is not at all like the fiction in this instance!

Because they want to kill Americans. Emotion outweighs reason with the Muslims who probably get an endorphin rush when they work themselves into a frenzy.

I don't know much about the Qur'an, but I thought it was only icons/portrayals of Allah that were forbidden.
