people often mistake weight loss for fat loss. They are related, but NOT the same thing. I'm assuming that your goal is to be healthier and look healthy.
You need to change your entire lifestyle. Eat proper foods, get excercize. You should do resistance training three times a week to build muscle and aerobic training three times a week for cardio/respretory fitness.
If you build muscle, you will use more calories during the day. Lets say you are carrying an extra 20 pounds of bodyfat, it doesnt cost your body anything (metabolically speaking) to carry that fat around. If you have 10 pounds of muscle, it takes calories to maintain that muscle, even when you arent working out.
Another thing is you should eat a balanced and nutritous diet. Devide your meals up. So eat half of your breakfast and wait a few hours and eat the other half. Same with lunch and dinner. By consuming the same amount of calories throughout the day, but deviding it up into frequent but smaller meals, you "Trick" your body into thinking that food is pleantiful and it wont store extra calories as fat.
The trick is to use good judgement on what you eat and when you eat it so that you consume the same amount of calories with 6 meals that you would have with three.
Dont forget to drink plenty of water! I cant emphesize this enough. It'll keep your hydration level up and allow your cells to get rid of waste products. You'll feel a lot better too. Limit your intake of sodas (even diet soda) and alcohol.
This doesnt mean you need to be a total "Health Nut". I enjoy an occasional Big Mac and eat cookies and chips, but I try to limit my intake of those things. Besides being loaded with calories, most of the calories come from fat, so if there are extra calories at the end of the day, its easy for your body to take those fatty acids and store them. They are also low in nutritive value, but they sure taste good and fill you up.
Good Luck!

Hey, that is perfectly doable - you have a realistic time frame, unlike some on here who want to lose 30 pounds in 3 weeks or whatever!
I have lost weight with Weightwatchers and kept it off. It's easy to incorporate into real life and not a "diet" - it's a way of learning how much your body needs. You can eat whatever you want, nothing is banned. It's a system of checks and balances - if you have something then you might not be able to also have the other thing too but you are FREE to choose. It promotes healthy eating but acknowledges that we want to eat out, have the occasional drink and treat ourselves too! This worked for me because as soon as I am told something is BANNED then it's all I think about..ha!
Seriously, please look into it. If you don't fancy meetings then you can do it online. I have never been to a meeting but have been helped by doing it together with my partner.
You know how time seems to go by so fast? Well, I decided to use it to sort out this weight thing. August will be here before you know it and you can have lost those 20lbs safely and in a way which is likely to help you keep it off for good. Go for it!

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

Eat more protein and less carbs. Try to get about 70-80 grams of protein in...and about half of that number of carbs. (35-40grams) Don't drink any liquid that is over 40 calories. IE...drink water, vitamin water, cystal light...etc, etc. Be sure to drink about 8 glasses or more of water in a day...and don't munch or graze throughout the day. Also, cut out any sugary sweets and such...
And of course...exercise! Get lots and lots or cardio in there. Good luck!

Seriously Weight watchers is the best. The advice is great and the point system works but the best part that keeps you in check is standing in front of the person doing the weigh in scale. You will fight to weigh less then the week before or do the i ate without reserve walk of shame I lost plenty.
