I do? Guess you know me better than I do then. I haven't talked about most of this before but you're the one that brought it up...

I don't smoke and never have. Its disgusting. It stinks and it killed my mother by causing lung cancer. I don't drink because drinking and driving killed three of my family and my father was an alcoholic (he's since recovered) that caused our lives to be a living hell for the first 15 years of my existance. I don't do drugs for the same reason.

You know... life has lessons to be learned and only the stupid ignore them. I learned my lesson and I don't do that crap. The worst thing I do is eat foods that are far too fattening and am 50 lbs overweight because I can't exercise due to the damage my car accident did to my body.

So yeah... you know me oh so well don't you? Next time, do us all a favor and think things through before you post such an incredibly rude thing.

I'm an atheist, and I don't smoke cigarettes, I've never taken an illegal drug, and my drinking is highly sporadic and never more than 2 drinks. I'm not certain why you have reached the conclusion that greater substance abuse occurs among atheists. I'm aware of no data that indicates that.

I think this is a human problem not a religious one, and by accusing atheists you've left out all the believers who may have substance use problems.

I think atheists who smoke, do drugs and drink do so for very much the same reasons as christians who smoke, do drugs and drink.

why would your religion determine what recreational drugs you use? why do you (i'm assuming) as a "good" christian not smoke or drink? just because you're religious doesn't mean that you can't have fun. you can't be a glutton, but you also can't spend your whole life doing nothing. wouldn't it be a shame if in the end, there is nothing and you spent your whole existance leading a very strait and dull life and then you had no way to change it?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I do not smoke, do drugs or even drink alcohol.

A lot of "God Fearing" people I know do all of the above...... and virtually everyone of them so SOME of the things you mentioned ..... especially the drink part.

--- If you're not joking: ---
i don't do any of that, except an occasional glass of wine if I'm going out for a nice dinner somewhere.

--- If you're joking: ---
Because we don't know right from wrong without the bible! We have no "moral compass!" After all, we just pretend we don't believe in god so that we won't feel bad for sinning! The guy from Growing Pains said so!

Don't forget, that there are Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddists, and even some Muslims have smoked tobacco, and partaken of alcohol.

It is either they believe that there is no harm to do said habits, or they are addicted to them.

Addiction has no favoritism to those that have a faith, OR to those that do not.

Please do not assume you are more perfect. We all are human and can delve into addictive things.

Another one you've got wrong.

I don't smoke, I don't do drugs and I only drink occasionally.

I can't answer for atheists, but what we put in our mouth is not what's important, it's the words that come out of our mouth that defiles us from within, for words come from our hearts.
I will admit some things are wrong to put in our body, but I see no wrong in drinking wine, if in moderation & does not allow our mouths to defile us. We are not to judge, Whom the Son sets free are free indeed.
