I have two adult cats, for whom I am either going to buy Frontline or Advantage tomorrow. they are indoor only, but my new kittens broguht home fleas! My vet's an old family friend and I'll get his advice before choosing, but I was wondering what was your experience with your cat and these products? Which worked better, or faster, or had less effect on the cat (I've heard of cats getting sick or acting subdued after flea treatments)?

Also, I my two small kittens, about 8 weeks old, are going to be wormed and given shots, and they have sooooo many fleas! Is there anything safe to use on them? I'm going to ask the vet, of course, but I wanted to know if there were any particular options I should ask about. Is there something he'll be able to give them in-office, or a topical treatment for little kitrtens? I really can't see them suffer any longer!

Thanks!

I have 2 cats as well. And once after one of them went to the vet for something, had to stay the night, she brought home both worms and fleas. So we got some Frontline spray, from the vet. Its a squirt bottle, $34, will last about 3 months for 2 cats. You just spray the cat with this stuff until they are wet, it will instantly kill any fleas on them. And when their hair sheds in their favorit spot it will kill the eggs and fleas that are there as well. And if a flea were to jump on them, it dies instantly. This means you don't have to wash all of your stuff and vaccum your entier house to kill the fleas. It works really great for us. It lasts a month like most over flea med.

FRONTLINE FRONTLINE FRONTLINE> Dont use Advantage, there are several thing that it does not protect you against, and for the same amount of money, Frontline does. I use frontline every month, love it. We have two cats, and a dog and they NEVER have fleas. At 8 weeks, I BELIEVE you can use Frontline, but dont quote me. Its probably 12 weeks. I couldnt find anything safe on my kitten when we got him (washes, sprays, collars, drops, etc) so I waited until 12 weeks and got him frontline.

if you buy the Frontline tomorrow, the vet can put it on for you, and show you how. Its effective immediatley. Its pretty simple, you just squeeze the capsule onto the back of the neck, and try not to let them lick the fur there til it dries. :)

best of luck with the new kitties!

I've had more success with Frontline Plus than Advantage. Sometimes it helps to rotate the products if one seems to be less effective than it used to be. Revolution, however, is supposed to be the gentlest. It can be used on kittens as young as 6 weeks.

You might also ask about Capstar. It can be used on kittens as young as 4 weeks. It is short acting, kills fleas quickly (within 4 hours), and is designed to be used with another medication, like Frontline, Advantage, Revolution, or Program.

I had excellent results with advantage. It seemed to start working in minutes and after about 20 minutes she was completely relaxed. Before the advantage I could tell she was really suffering from the fleas. No side effects.

Yep, Frontline. It's my favourite, and certainly the most popular. Also it has it's Frontline Plus variety, the only spot-on which also treat the environment. I expect you've made your choice by now, what was it?
