Are you from out of state?

If so, you can get away without paying, but if you ever come back to California and get stopped, that unpaid fine will be on the records system, and they'll write you up for that plus whatever you're stopped for.

Then if you don't pay it or the ticket for the moving violation, and you come back to California, there's a possibility that those unpaid fines will turn into a no-bail warrant, which means if you make contact with the law again, and they do a records check, you'll go to jail until you pay the fines.

If there were any extenuating circumstances around your parking ticket (sign was missing, damaged, poor visibility, etc) you can sometimes write a politely-worded letter and get them to waive the fine.

yes if you got the notice you have to pay it,or go to court ,and fight it,and loose and also have to pay court fee,s on top of the fine, its always better to pay parking tickets, you cant beat them,id just pay it,and forget about it,good luck hope this helps.

Of course you have to pay it! Unless you're OK with having your licence suspended for not paying it. Your choice I suppose...
