They can't be. Those christians are just misusing the term. That's like asking how someone with long brown hair can be bald.

Well, an agnostic is someone who doesn't necessarily believe in God; some might, but I think most of them just simply don't know one way or another. I am a Muslim and unbeknownst (sp?) to many Christians, we believe in the same God that they do, the God of Adam, Noah, Moses, Abraham, Jesus (Peace Be Upon Them). The main difference in the theology of the two religions is that we believe that Jesus was a prophet of God and not the son of God. Historically the concept of the trinity comes from pagan roots, just like Christmas and Easter. I am a convert from Christianity, and one thing that I can't figure out is why so many Christians know this, yet they hold onto their beliefs! How can you know historically (not from a Muslim or a Christian point of view, but from historians) that not a single Christian ever believed that Jesus (PBUH) was the son of God until 300 years after his death when the Emperor Constantine of Constatinople incorporated the trinity along with Christmas and Easter into Christianity to make it easier for the pagans to accept, and then forced every Christian person to follow this or be put to death. There are a few people who still hold onto Ancient "Christiantity"; they are Unitarians. Muslims believe in One God and I would reccomend researching this to any person who truly wants the truth. May the blessings and poeace of God be with us all. Teena

An atheist does not believe in ANY concept of God. If the atheist has some concept of God he is really not a true atheist.
Atheists are really believers. They are just in denial. They have different reasons and motivations for not accepting God which all boil down to refusal to accept the responsibility of being a believer.
Peace and blessings!

Most people of every religion will think their god is the correct god and the only god/gods, especially christians.
There is a chance for SOME Christians who believes in the way you mentioned. They believed every other people who does not believe their god are not believing in god but devil/satan and the rest of the occult creatures. Since the definition for atheist is "A person who have no belief in the existence of god" and in these christians view all others are not god believers, hence all others, except for themselves, are atheists.
God (If he even existed) is an Atheist, He Will have no belief in other gods or even his own creator as he will view himself as the only greatest power and no other gods ......

theoretically tehy are NOT atheists.but since christians think that their's is the only true religion the also think that the Gods that ,for e.g. a hindu believes in,are false.
that's why you see from time to time christians asking "why are atheists in the R&S section?"... (that's also based on this firm conviction that their's is the only true religion)i'm an atheist and a Buddhist and one thing i've noticed specifically in christians is that they're not at all tolerant of other religions.

You can not be an Atheist if you believe in God or any deity. The term Atheist implies that a person does not believe in either of those.

Some people (not everyone, mind you, only some) have a tendancy to call anyone who doesn't agree with their particular religious viewpoint by terms that aren't always accurate.
As an example, I'm Mormon, and to hear some people around here tell it, my church is an evil cult run by power-hungry grandpas out to brainwash the world.
Why do they make a habit of accusing people outside their faith of being cultists/atheists/whatever? I don't really know.

If you believe there is a God, you are not an atheist, but I don't believe God conforms to everybody's idea of what He should be.

They have to take this (or a similar position); afterall, what would they do (or any one do) if they found that their foundation belief was incorrect and/or someone else's foundation belief WAS correct?
Also, this is often the result of simple 'laziness'; i.e., as to really know why you believe what you believe takes a LOT of effort and thinking. Just accepting (or applying) a simple, easy to use, 'black and white' formula of "right and/or wrong"--end of story, is the easiest way.

The Christians of the First Century CE were also called "atheists" because they rejected the Roman pantheon, acknowledging only their own "Christ". Perhaps this is delayed payback.
