I like Scott Peck's definition best. In the Road Less Traveled, he said that it is placing the welfare of another on an even plane with your own. It is not a feeling it is a choice. I agree with him. This is how we can love our enemies. No one said we have to like them or have rosy feeling for them.
C.S. Lewis has a good definition too. In the 4 Loves. The highest form of Love is like the Love of God for us. Like Jesus. That is self sacrificial Love. To place the well being of another higher than your own life. Most parents feel that way for their children.
Also I think that some of what people call 'falling in love' is really a temporary state of insanity, and not really Love.

I know what you asked was for my own words on love... but since human love has disappointed me so deeply - let me tell you what I dream it would be - what I'm trying to incorporate into my life... Sorry... I have to quote:
"Love is patient and kind; it is not jealous or conceited or proud; love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable; love does not keep a record of wrongs; love is not happy with evil, but is happy with the truth. Love never gives up; and its faith, hope, and patience never fail. Love is eternal. "
It's really hard... but somehow - with God's help - someday I'll make it.
Peace.

There are different kinds of love. Love for neighbor is called agape. This Greek word means caring and doing something for the well-being of another person. That's the kind of love we should all have.
Peace and blessings!

Hard question!
The way I describe it is when I am away from my husband. It hurts so bad and is rather like missing an arm or a leg. He is an essential part of my life that I simply can not be without.

Love is kind, never fails, is not jealous, does not look for its own interests, does not get puffed up, does not become provoked, not rejoice over unrighteousness, it bears a lot, believes a lot, hopes all things, it endures all things. never fails, rejoices with the truth. Love never falls short. does not brag. Love satisfies your desires for the good.
Love has no definition...only a description.
Peace......

I would describe love as if you truly love someone without expecting any love from them. I think love is when you love that person, no matter what it takes or sacrifices you have to make, you will be more than willing to go a million miles for them. God Bless!

When you feel a tingle in your boosem and your heart feels like it's growing bigger. Sometimes you faint or pass out. Other times you can even barf. Love makes you feel really crazy. Love is awesome. I should know because I've had a lot of girlfriends.

After 24 years of marriage, love to me is sort of a tired feeling that's best cured by eight hours of uninterrupted sleep.
But I would still die in a NY moment for my wife and sons.

To me there are different kinds of love. The kind you have for friends, the kind you have for family and children and the kind you feel for your "partner".
In general though I think there is a feeling of safety in love, a feeling of warmth and happiness and if with a partner, then feelings of sexual attraction.
I also think love allows you to be yourself with the other person.

Love is like a tree.
It starts out like a seed....no wait....
Love is like the sun, it beats down the warmth upon you, and in turns, with the rain and the soil, and ...no wait, I'll stick with the tree
Love is like a forest.
It grows like crazy with the help of many things, including the crap of many animals.
