The condition of the person depends whether he can be considered as disabled or not when the psychiatric condition occurs with regular periods of extreme mood. These moods can occur on a spectrum ranging from debilitating depression to unbridled mania. Individuals suffering a bipolar disorder generally experience fluid states of mania, hypomania or what is referred to as a mixed states in concert with clinical depression. These clinical states typically alternate with a normal range of mood, which is termed euthymia. Bipolar disorder can range in severity from a mild annoyance to a serious lifelong disability, and is often difficult to diagnose due to the complex nature of the disorder. It has been suggested that many individuals may go undiagnosed their entire lives[

It's a mental disorder... I don't know about a disability. I guess it depends on how you define "disability". But it's a very serious condition and very specific. Read the DSM to find out more.

I would think it is, but you would need to check it out with a good psychiatrist. I do know that bi-polar illness requires, constant counseling, medications, patient watching to make sure they take their medications even when they feel good. They are a danger to normal people and they often times CAN'T work. As a disability, probably so.

Yes, check with your state disability people and social security. All you need is a doctor to verify your condition.

well it depends how you look at it. My boyfriend is bipolar and he has his good and bad times. You just have to try to stay calm and relax. I dont think its a disability; everyones different.
Good Luck!

Actually it's a disorder (manic-depressive illness) where there are abnormal disturbances in one's mood. Someone might be happy one moment and then fuming with rage the next. You can never be too sure with the people who have it because their mood is always changing.

I am going from my experience with a friend of mine who professes to be diagnosed with same. Personally, NO. We have been naming every attitude for the last decade from SLD to every other disorder three letter tag you can think of. It is a personality, mannerism, mood change based on when they get frustrated, hurt, angry etc... so when a two year old throws a tantrum do we now call it bipolarity? I think not. Change your attitude and accept the pitfalls, it's called LIFE.
