I am a firm believer in "a text without a context is a pretext"
If you really read the entire Bible you will understand that it says to "hate the sin but love the sinner"
I DO NOT condone picking on anyones religion. I would never want to be judged for my beliefs and my choice of religion clearly says not to judge others for theirs.
Your choice of religion should be very personal and if you truly believe what you say you do then you will read it and study it as a whole to ensure no misunderstandings such as the ones listed above.

There are two major testaments in the bible. The old testament is more history than anything else. The laws given then were for the Jewish people of that time. Were you run into issue is the ones that are still viable to us, because Jesus said so. The massive killings is something in th bible that I do not understand fully myself. Everyone says that Christians are dancing around the issue when we mention faith, and I can see how that makes for an easy target for us, but in all actuality the very issue is faith. I have faith that God is perfect and does everything for a reason. TRUE christians are not the evil people that we are made out to be. We are not judgemental, we are truly concerned over the eternity of all souls. I love everyone, I just happen to hate sin. I commit sin myself, and I hate myself for it sometimes. I truly want to please God, and I am upset when I don't. It is false converts, that live under the name of Christianity, that are giving us a bad name. Jesus loves you too.

It does seem pretty hateful, by today's standards, but, I don't believe that it was ever meant to be a guide for living. It was actually borrowed and condensed from ancient Sumerian texts...which were already vastly ancient at the time of Sumeria. So, I believe the old testament to be an incomplete, and out of context rendering of ancient pre-historical events. It truly is likely to be describing events during the beginnings of our species, but intelligent, thinking and human-like life forms have existed long, long before our species, ever did. There is so much that we don't know, but we would know these things if so many ancient records had not been destroyed by evil, unscrupulous, power hungry, and greedy men. *sm*

Your taking the scripture out of context. One of the reasons God gave the Israelites the Law of Moses, is so they could understand the holiness of God. You could not approach God in your sinful and wicked ways, or it could kill you. If certain people were allowed to remain in the camp of God living sinful and wicked ways, it would spread to the rest of the people causing wrath and disease to break out. Read the first five books of Moses again. When people complained or when they committed sexual sins, death causing diseases broke out in the camp, which happened supernaturally. And some one would have to go and offer a sacrifice unto the Lord to halt the pestilence or disease. The Lord dwelt in the camp with His people. You can not live with God who is holy and have sin in your life. His Presence will judge you and you will die in your sins. That's why God had gave Moses those Laws. The Law of Moses was enforced by angels. But now that Christ has came and ushered in grace, wrath still comes, but now only God is more longsuffering towards people repenting.

The things that are talked about in the bible were about the laws of that time. Jesus came and changed things and we are not asked to kill anyone. We are to love everyone and not to judge, we are also to turn the other cheek, as opposed to the old laws of "an eye for an eye" so No it is not Hate literature, it is a historical telling of the way things were then.
