My grandfather took his own life last October. I had a hard time with this question myself. I talked to several ministers and all agreed yes you can but must believe in Jesus and why did you take your life. If you are leaving people behind that you are responsible for the ministers all said it was different story

Personally, I believe that if a person commits suicide then he is NOT a Christian. A Christian is Christ-Like. Christ never harmed HIMSELF in any way. The body is said to be the TEMPLE of GOD. Destroying the Temple is a Non-Christian thing to do. Once a person has commotted suicide, he/she can never be forgiven of that sin because he/she has taken away their only possibility of asking forgivness by committing suicide. One of the answerers spoke of a soldier laying his life on the line for a friend. That is different from suicide. That is a question for GOD to answer. We are to give ourselves for others. Have a wonderful week. I can not wait to read these answers. There should be quite a variety.
Thank you,
Eds, Christian

"Heaven" is the province of the religion which created the concept; only theists believe in it as a place, reward, or afterlife. Therefore, the "rules" governing who is eligible for admission must vary according to the religious sect to which one subscribes. If you are Christian (Roman or Orthodox Catholic, or Protestant), you must have in your scriptures (Bible) the information regarding the requirements for gaining entry into your heaven; your clergy can not arbitrarily alter or invent those criteria. If the Bible excludes those who are suicides, then that should be the final word upon the subject since you accept the book as the literal word of god. If the subject of suicide is not addressed therein, then I suppose someone in a position of authority must decide for the faithful whether or not one who has committed suicide may be allowed into the kingdom of heaven...

Sin is “any want of conformity unto or transgression of the law of God” (1Jo_3:4; Rom_4:15), in the inward state and habit of the soul, as well as in the outward conduct of the life, whether by omission or commission (Rom_6:12-17; Rom_7:5-24). Sin is not a mere violation of the law of our constitution, nor of the system of things, but an offense against a personal lawgiver and moral governor who vindicates his law with penalties. Some sins in themselves, and by reason of various aggravations, are more heinous in the sight of God than others (Jn. 19:11; 1 Jn. 5:16).
God forgives all sins except the one sin that denies Him. This sin ascribes to God what Satan has done, in that a person blasphemes the Spirit God that has been sent to call a person to righteousness. By saying with full knowledge "I do not believe", a person has in effect participated in the very first lie told in Eden.
Taking one’s own life is an offense against God, the Giver of all life. But suicide is a sin as any other sin. If a person is truly saved, God will forgive this sin, too, just as He forgives other sins of those who claim the "credit" given them by the atoning sacrifice of Christ.

While suicide is a sin, I believe that G-d looks at the whole story, considers all the factors in the suicide, and then He can decide whether to forgive that person. An example would be if the person was mentally ill and not in control of his or herself at the time of suicide.

I'm assuming you mean according to Christianity.
Suicide is never mentioned in The Bible as a sin. The Catholic Church deemed it a mortal sin because you would die without having the opportunity to reconcile this action (have confession with a priest). Protestantism differs on this view. The sects that believe "once saved, always saved" (Baptists, for example) support the view that suicide would not prevent you from entering Heaven. The sects that believe that you can lose your salvation (Pentecostal, Non-Denominational) usually support the view that suicide is a one way ticket to Hell.

maybe not if he killed someone else first....then that would be the coward way out. But, I have always thought that if God is supposed to love us like a parent loves a child, why wouldn't He grab them up and take them home with Him, where they won't be in mental pain anymore. I can't imagine God turning away a good person, who just had too much pain.

God obviously looks at the heart and judges accordingly, but I think that for the majority of suicides that this person probably did not look to God, but inwardly to self, therefore did not rid self of their old nature and become Christlike. If you are a true christian, your focus is on God/Jesus, not on yourself. And if it is not on self, then you do not dwell on self problems that bring you to suicide. Of course, there surely are exceptions as in unbearable pain etc and only God knows and judges. God bless

No he will not. God is in charge of his life, but He give everyone a free choice. This person chose what happened. God could've taken care of his problems, but the guy chose to take things in his own hands. And God, the loving God, gave him a choice. He chose to go to hell.

well this question has both answers, yes and no. surely killing oneself will lead you to hell as most religions say but what if you kill yourself to free yourself from pain which is very bad and no one is around and you know you will die but slowly....an example of this would be like you have only a hand attached o your body and rest of it is badly damaged and you are in great pain, so to stop that suffering you take your life , it is not a sin to me or if you have to take your life to save someone else's life is not a sin either.
