your friend in on track as fats are the most calorie dense foods and olive oil is a healthy fat. however simply adding 2 tablespoons of evoo to the diet doesn't neccessary mean that weight gain will occur. you need to look at the type of daily exercise that you perform and also your current total caloric intake. I would increase the current caloric intake by 10% each week until measurable weight gain occurs. track your body fat so you can fine tune your diet

There is some truth to what your friend is saying. A tablespoon of oil can have about 120 calories. Oils (fats) are the most calorie dense foods.

it depends on what else you eat. if you don't have a lot of calories then you body will just burn the fat.
You should also think about the kidn of wight you w want to put on. Do you want to put on fat, muscle, or increase bone density.

To increase fat eat a more long chain fats like olive oil and even some butter or pork fat. Those fats get processed in the body's adipose tissue and if theya re not burnt they get stored as fat. If you want to increase muscle then you have to lift weights.
