I am a 14 year old "pageant girl" and model. I competed in pageants from the time I was a baby until I was around 4. I started again last year and have won many titles. It does give me a lot of self confidence to win. You have to be confident enough also though to take it well if you dont win. Last year I competed in 16 pageants and won 13 titles. The three I got 1st Runner Up in I made my mom sell the dress I wore (yes it was the dresses fault!) LOL Seriously judges look for different things and just because you dont have what a particular judge is looking for, doesnt mean you are not beautiful. I will be giving up my National Teen Miss title in about 2 weeks and even though it is hard, I know another lucky girl will get to have wonderful experiences like I did for a whole year. Pageants have helped me to grow from an akward pre-teen into a national title holder who is able to carry on a decent conversation with adults about adult topics. Interview questions are hard. You cannot just be a "bubblehead" and expect to win a pageant. Scholastic achievement is usually required on most pageant applications and community service is a must. You have to be a positive role model for those in your community. Pageants have helped teach me poise and projection, runway skills and public speaking. I also started my modeling career by meeting an agent at a pageant. Pageantry has also helped me develop friendships with girls from all over the country and appreciate the value of fair competition and sportsmanship. I am a competitive person and also compete in cheerleading, volleyball and track but pageants are my favorite!

I think it has to be something that YOU enjoy doing. You must always remember that the winner is who the judges like the best and there will be different judges at different pageants. Just because you do not do well at one pageant does not mean you will not do well at another one. It is all based on OPINIONS of several people. I think pageants can make your self esteem better or they can make it worse.... depending on the contestant and the outcome of the pageant. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again!

Beauty pageants are a great learning experience for females of all ages. Through pageantry, a girl or woman can learn how to carry themselves more confidently and learn how to walk with poise. They gain experience in interviewing (during the interview portion of the pageant), and are able to meet other females who sometimes become lifelong friends. Beauty pageants are a way that a female can feel good about herself, I know many people who have participated in pageants and they help females to believe in themselves and grow not only physically, but emotionally as well.

That depends on the pageant and participants.
I have no problem with pageants as long as the participant is truly in it because she wants to be - meaning she can stop at any time - and the pageant and parents keep things age-appropriate, not letting small children feel the pressure of competativeness, and not allowing prepubescent little girls to be trussed up like a street walker and be given a trophy for it.

Fun, interesting, enjoyable, a very great experience, and you learn alot from it... An awsome experience if you have what it takes, even if you don't, the experience itself is nice and it teaches u alot. Whether you win or you loose, think of it as a lesson, as a life experience, you learn something from it; like to do better in a future beauty pageant, or to know how to get through something in life down the road.

I admire the contestants' dedication to beauty, and the hours and pain that they are willing to put into it. I think I'm doing well if I shave the lower half of my legs once a week. Would never have the patience for it.

do you mean what i think about beauty pageants? well, i think that they're just bunch of women trying to show the world who's prettier and smarter than everyone else (or even the rest of the world, maybe). i think pageants are a big joke. (((like, if they want to help the world/earth, they don't have to join or even make these stupid contests like Ms. Earth. that sucks. some girls are smarter than these idiots, but they're not pretty. and these idiot women are idiots. what can they do to the universe when they join Ms. Universe?)))

Just women who want an ego boost. All they are about is winning that contest, what they are looking like, and all kinds of boring crap. Gimmie a real woman who can get ready in 5 min and head out doing whatever comes to mind.

I have never been in one, but they seem like an enriching experience. You will meet new people and learn about yourself. On the other hand they can be catty and very competitive. Your choice. Good Luck!

I think they are wrong for little girls. I think 13 is plenty young enough for girls to start in pageants and modeling. Children grow up fast enough without slathering make-up on 3 year-olds and dressing them up in sequined dresses.
