Cincinnati Police Officer's Blood-Alcohol Level Tested .08
AURORA, Ind. -- A Cincinnati police officer was jailed Thursday morning, charged with driving while intoxicated.

Charles Bebee, 53, was arrested in Aurora, Ind., around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A police report stated that an officer spotted a sport utility vehicle moving at a high rate of speed, then a car behind the SUV stopped to tell the officer that the driver of the SUV was going to cause an accident.

The officer followed the SUV for some time before pulling it over for doing 55 in a 35 mph zone.

The report said the officer gave a field sobriety test to Bebee, who failed it. The report said Bebee consented to a chemical test, where his blood-alcohol level was determined to be .08 percent.

Police said that Bebee was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of .08 or higher.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving presented Bebee with a Top Cop award earlier this year.

Cincinnati police said Beebe would be assigned to desk duty, with police powers suspended, pending the outcome of his court case.http://www.wftv.com/news/13256454/detail.html

I'll check with MADD, but I don't think there is a stipulation that says if you receive an award from them, you can't be charged with DUI.

I need two things- 1)probable cause you were driving a motor vehicle. 2)probable cause that you were under the influence at the time. Your friend's voluntarily statement covers the first and the breat-test covers the second. A jury will have to figure out whether you and your friend lied at the time of the accident, or whether you are both lying in court. I doubt they will believe your testimony. Face it, its reasonable to believe your friend was driving and now you are trying to come up with a cover story to prevent his conviction. There is no reason for him to have lied on the night of the accident, but a real big reason for you to lie in court. I really advise you not to do this, the ADA will tear you up, if the jury don't believe you (and I think they won't), you and your buddy could be facing felony perjury charges. PS-for the answerer whose hubby is a cop and stated you don't have to do a test: not in CO or anyother state I've aware of. Its called Expressed Consent, you drive in our state and you've already agreed to have your blood drawn or perform on an intoxilizer. Refusal equals guilt and a harsher sentence than just DUI.

I think MADD should take back that award for this kind of hypocritical behaviour. Bravo to the Cincy police for suspending police powers, but assigning desk duty. Bebee would be forced to turn in his badge and guns and kicked off the force dishonourably if I were the chief.

Idiots like this one make the good and honourable cops look very bad.

I think it is very unfortunate and stuff like this gives all police a bad name. However, police officers are people to and have real life problems as all do. They are not immune to problems with drugs, alcohol, divorce etc. He needs to be dealt with just like any other person caught for DUI is and disciplined properly by his department. It sounds like he was cooperative through the process unlike some officers who think they are above the law.

Not the first MADD one to get a DUI. but since this is a cop as well. Get a rope and hang the hypocrite. DUIs are all about money and not public safety, not anymore

How could MADD have known when they gave him the award that this would happen?

Hope this helps.
