I'm looking to achieve my ideal weight, but I'm not sure what that is. I'm 5'6 and 17 years old, and right now I weigh 141 pounds. What do you guys think is the ideal weight for someone my height/age? Weight loss tips would be appreciated, too. Thanks!

I betcha you are beautiful the way you are. I personally think this world is putting too much emphasis on this weight thing. Unless you are clearly overweight, then don't start on the "crash diet downfall". Take care.

A concerned mother!

I heard about a rule of thumb- 100 pounds for the first 5 feet of height, then an additional 5 pounds per inch above 5 feet... which would put you at about 130... but I still think that's a little on the thin side.

I'm 5'3" and 130, size 8, and looking good!!... So I'd say that at 5'6, 141, and especially where you're only 17, I'd bet you look pretty dang good, too!

Remember, women need a little fat and cushion, otherwise we look like Calista Flockhart... raisins-on-a-pine-board is not the sexiest look.

Your height and weight are near the 75th percentile, giving you a body mass index of 22.75, which is also near the 75th percentile for your age. So you are normal by statistical standards. The 50th percentile BMI for your age is 21. To achieve that you would need to weigh 130 lbs.

i'm 5'6.5 and i weigh 130 and everyone says that's the perfect weight. but i think even 135 would be good, so i think you only need to lose about 6 pounds if you really want to. if you don't want to, you'e fine. anyway, before you eat, drink a glass of water to fill you up so you eat less, and don't keep any fatty foods in the house, although you should give in to cravings about once a week, and walk as much as possible instead of driving or something.

I am 5'6" also. Although you are in our appropriate body range, I think that I look best in the 120-129 range. Anything over that and the cellulite starts to show and the muffin tops start blooming. Keep it under control now while you are young otherwise, it will just get worse as time goes on and the children come!

Burn more calories than you consume. That is the key. Good luck!

Your BMI (body mass index) places you in the 52nd percentile, and since 50 is average, you are about average now, but today the average American is a little over weight.
So, your ideal healthy weight should be 127lbs, based on your height, weight, and age.

Hope this answers your question

Check your BMI body mass index.
It's (your weight in kg) , divided by your height (in metre) square.
say -for example- your weight is 50kg and your height is 1.5m
then bmi =50/ (1.5 x 1.5)
if the result is below 18.5 you're underweight, 18.6 -23 you're ideal, >23 its getting overweight. the BMI is an accurate indicator as it differs from everyone, according to their height.

In terms of weight loss, it all boils down to wise diet choices like low-calorie and low-fat food plus exercises, there's no other way to be honest.
