do a search for 19th century female scientists.
these women began to show society and more importantly other women, that they too, when given acess to education and opportunity, could make significant contributions. You've come a long way baby!

Don't think they did much to help this century....though there are some experts who think that Pasteur was a cross dresser. Does that count?
