Fusion is based on the Mazda 6 which has been around for a few years so it's a tried and true platform. It's a nice looking car with good power. The V6 is the only way to go.

I own a 2007 V6 SEL Ford Fusion for a month now. It's an excellent car. I have yet to find even the tiniest flaw mechanically, appearance or fit and finish. I am enjoying it immensely.

It's a very balanced car. Not too plush, not too sporty. It has a very nice feel to it and is quite comfortable to drive. It also is a very attractive car.

Since you specifically asked about the two different engines, you should know that the V6 is very inconsistent when it comes to gas mileage. I'm only getting about 18 mpg for a mix of 50% city and 50% expressway. I know others who are getting down in the 13 to 15 mpg for their mostly city driving. Still others claim to be getting 20 mpg or better for mostly city. This is significantly different than the EPA stickers. So if gas mileage is important, you may want to go with the I4. It's cheaper too.

Given the horsepower and torque out of the 4 cylinder engine, it should be reasonably peppy enough. But the V6 provides very nice power for this car.

The only negative thing that everyone agrees on, is that it's turning circle is very wide for a car it's size. I used to drive a larger Buick Century, and could make certain U-turns without having to back up. In the Fusion I have to stop and back up a little.

Consumer Reports, known for their dislike of domestic cars, gave the Fusion their top recommended buy rating, as well as their top ratings in safety and predicted reliability.

I work on these things for a living and It's been out for about a year now and other than maintaince and a few things here and there (nothing that is a pattern)..I actually don't get to touch them too much. The v-6 does have more power and the lincoln version is a lot more upscale than the Ford version but I can't fault them as being anything but good quality so far... them and the 500s I have actually rarely seen in the shop.

The Fusion is built on the Mazda, but when Ford got it they made some excellent improvements. Its a bit less sporty, but has better sound dampening, is a bit safer, and a smoother ride.

Also look at the Mercury Milan-identical car, but some configurations are cheaper since many of the features are standard on the Mercury.

Fusion is the best car Ford has out right now.

V6 has more power
I-4 will get you an extra few mpg.

Beats the bulbous Camry and the aging Accord any day.

I would definately go with the 6 - I have the 6-CYL AWD and I LOVE IT. It's the best car I've ever owned and it's really fun to drive. We did a lot of research on it before we bought it and the only complaint that I can find anyone having (including myself) is the back dash is too high, which makes it hard to see when backing up. If you have any questions about it feel free to ask me because I really do love my car!!!

Go for the V-6. Much peppier and has better re-sale value. Fusion is a highly ranked new car.

a very good car. it beat the toyota camry and honda accord in reliability, handling, and style. good gas mileage, not overpriced, and rides smooth. if you are going to buy one, get the v-6. in the long run, you will enjoy the v-6 better than the v-4.
