Is the so call DV port on the laptop basically the Firewire port?

/for transfering videos from camcorder to laptop.

yes, Apple has a trademark on the name "firewire", so camcorder manufactures have to get inventive. DV, ieee1394, ilink (SONY), are all equivalent names.
