I think it depends on your spectrum of picture taking. If you are more of an event photographer; I would take atleast 10 pictures from a wedding; 10 from a party; 10 from recitals; or whatever other events you cater too.

If you are a street photographer; just try to expose all the different types of shots you take in around 30 pictures. For example; dont have three different pictures of the same subject. Try to cover everything; and don't worry about grouping them in the portfolio. Sometimes; a bit of randomness makes everything look better.

If you are both an event and street photographer; you are probably better off getting two different portfolios together; but maybe you don't need to make each of them quite as extensive.

Hope this helps !

10-12, and only your best, unless they gave you an idea of how many they wanted you to bring.

You can carry a second portfolio with backup photos in case the interviewer wants to see more, but don't show them unless asked.

It's always best to leave them wanting more than to bore them with more than they want to see.

I beleive ,its u to decide whether u like to shoot all sorts of subjects or some specific ones.
In both cases, its not the number thats important ,but the portfolio must include those pictures which are all different from each other and which gives an idea of all the capabilities and techniques u possess.(only include the best ones)
