when you see the on car camera its filled with rubber or water or some other debris how do they make it clean during the race

The camera has a rotating clear lense. when the lense gets dirty or wet it rotates to a clean side

The camera lense has a protective film over it and they can advance the protective film when it gets dirty. The protective film is simliar to a VHS or cassette tape and the way the tape spins from one spool to another while advancing past the tape heads.

Usually with a wire brush during a pit stop...there is a crewman that can reach over the wall with a wire brush on a telescoping handle to scrub debris from the grille. Occasionally, the front tire carrier can get it with his gloved hand as well.

The drivers all have a tube in their helmets that hook onto the camera so they can spit on the lens during the race.

windshield has tearoffs...the cameras inside do not need cleaning...outside cameras rotate

they slide the lens guards out of the way by remote control.

and for the windshields they have tear offs... just rip a piece of clear plastic off and it's good to go
