I have a friend who has been in a relationship w/ this guy for a little over 3 yrs. In the past year, they have gotten a cat. She was telling me that since they started living together, the punishments for the cat have gotten worse. From what I understand, he doesn't just haul off & beat the crap outta the cat. She said that the cat WILL do something wrong, i.e. get into the garbage or be in stuff that it shouldn't be in, before the boyfriend does any "punishing." But from what it sounds like, it went from 1 or 2 lil smacks on the bum & a verbal scolding to a freakin' belt & yelling. Now, I'm not advocating any of those kinds of actions & it kinda scares me for her & their future kids' sake. Overall, he seems like a normal guy. He's never once, according to her, hit her, & to me he seems fairly calm w/o any "issues." I'm was just wondering if anybody has experience with such persons & knows if they've treated their kids in the same manner? I want to give her warning if need be.

This is a proven fact. People that are violent towards animals will eventually do the same thing to people, in fact thats how alot of murderers start off. If he cant feel any compassion for a helpless animal that doesnt know any better what do you think hes gonna do to her or her child? She should get out while she still has the chance, 3 years isnt long she will get over it, theres no telling what kind of monster he will turn into as time goes by and i wouldnt stick around to find out.

I will gladly take that cat off their hands in order to give that animal a loving home and a better life! Cats should not be abused for any reason, and this cat is abused for being curious. As for any future children, he may or may not abuse them. I have had abusive parents as clients who beat their children with water hoses and yet were very gentle with their pets! The issue at hand is the pet that is being abused, and knowing what you know, you are required to get that pet out of that abusive home, in any way that you can. Tell the girlfriend she can't let the cat suffer any longer.

He definitely has anger issues. Gotta get those sorted out before he moves onto people.

Cats and kids are small and defenceless. An infant is about the size of a cat. They all respond to abuse the same way: badly.

I would imagine that anybody who becomes so violent with a pet is much more likely to be violent with children than someone who's kind and patient with a pet. What's disturbing to me is that the violence has escalated (to hitting the cat with a belt??? Yeesh!!!). It would definitely put up a red flag in my mind.

Veterinarians (like a teacher or Dr.) are actually mandatory reporters because animal abuse usually is a good indicator of how a person will treat a child.

I've heard about a corrolation between abusing pets and abusing people. She should be very weary about ever having kids with him.
