you should pratice with a sparring partner or someone. but this situation is totally dependent of your boxing style and physical abilities. are you slow or fast are you mobile or immobile?
the best way i can describe is foot work. with a person who rushes you the best way to evade is to use footwork and the counterpunches should fall in place example:
most rushers rush with hooks or lunging punches. so defend them as you would as if you were stationary with mixing in slipping/ducking and rolling. two convential fighters are fighting and one person charges with left hook
options:
duck the left hook pivot to the right and counter 1,2
or duck the left hook pivot to the right and throw a right hook to the body
the charger rushes with a lunging straight right
options:
roll the right hand with your left shoulder
slip the right hand to the outside and counter left hook to the body or head
step the left and pivot back to basic boxing stance with leaves the rusher off balance and upen for just about any counter

There are a few counter tactics to being rushed.
1. Retreat using your jab to keep him at bay.
The problem with this is you jab will be weaker since your not able to use your momentum and sometimes they will rush into faster than you can back up.
2. Have good footwork.
It is a harder to hit a moving target. Use side-2-side fostwork to step aside. When he stops to turn back towards you, pop him with a jab to the nose. And keep repeating.
3. You can also crouch down, brace for a collision, and body slam him back. Then you need to let loose a few hooks and if possible a good uppercut. An uppercut to the chin of an opponent is a beautiful thing to experience..
If you want to avoid a close-up fight and he gets inside your guard. Shove him away and use your footwork to circle and jab.

Basically you take what he gives you. If he is throwing low then you can block with your forearms and throw your punch over his. If he is throwing wide you can step inside so that the punch goes over or to your side and throw straight punches inside of his arms. If he throws straight then you can block or push the punch as to spin him and then counter outside his arm. If someone is rushing you must either step to the side or spin them. The important thing is not to lose your composure and start wildly throwing punches. That is the way to get hurt.

You've got the basics down pretty well.
the best thing to do is practice this with a sparring partner.
best thing you can do is take what the attacker is giving you.
for example:
if he's rushing you and punching with straight hands you counter to your left (or right mattering on which hand is coming towards you) and you hit him with a left hook (or a right matters on the angle).
its important to remember that you shouldn't try to hurry and attempt to land a (what i call a) homerun punch (aka. big knockout punch) tire him down first. its usually not wise to try and match the intensity and agression of someone rushing towards you and throwing countless big shots.
if you did do that there is a good chance he might catch you with a heavy punch.
be wise.

Well, I guess you' ve had the basic techniques down. But you can also try to cover up and allow you opponent to hit your arms and gloves until he punches himself out, just like Ali's "rope-a-dope". Of course, all these techniques (including yours) are easier said than done. The important thing here is that you shouldn't allow yourself to get rushed on by your opponent. Counter right away and move out.

When you are being rushed, and crowded, the best punch you can throw to deter them are short stabbing uppercuts between the guard. Pop that sucker on the chin a few times, and he will back off.

the best thing to do is to step out of that rush either on left or right side. if the punch is a right hook that comes from the right hand... duck and move to your left, your opponents body is now exposed on this side, you can throw the left punch on his right side while protecting your own with your right hand, remember to guard one of your hands while counterpunching. you can do this on the other side too.
