When I was in college, i worked in the kitchen of a very busy restaurant. At first I'd try to save money on shoes because they were so easily soiled and ruined. I too had lots of pain. Finally, I bought a really good pair of Nike cross-trainers and it was the smartest decision I'd ever made. The qualities of cross- trainer shoes that make them good for all sorts of movement also made them wonderful for the turning and short walks, etc., in the kitchen. Nike was the brand I liked best, but I'd recommend any good brand of cross-trainers, depending on your preference of companies.

I'm a line chef in a kitchen and i'm working 9 hour days. Towards those last 2 hours i can hardly stand on my feet. What kind of shoes would be the most comfortable?

Hi
I saw my chiropractor wearing this odd looking shoe. It looks like a normal shoe but under the heal is a spring. I asked him what type of shoe it was and why he was wearing them. He said they were Z-coils. He stated that with being on his feet all day he was starting to have heal pain. So he switched to Zcoils. Since then he has had no pain and he finds that when he steps down the spring, which aids in absorbing shock, gives force back. He declares that these have been the best shoe he has ever worn. He states that they are comfortable too.
Check out the zcoil.com website
I am so interested in these, that I am checking into getting a pair myself

I have always had good luck with wolverines wedge soled shoes. There isn't any arch in the tread and it creates a flat surface. I am a large person and those have always worked for me and I stand on my feet from 8-16 hours a day and I feel fine at the end of the day. Another brand to try may be SAS a lot of the people that I've worked with swear by those to. I've never worn them so I am not sure.

Dansko Shoes-
Typically worn in healthcare environments, very comfortable and protective of spills and falling objects.
I used to wait tables and bought a pair. Changed my attitude to being on my feet, nonstop, for 8 or more hours!!

Dansko shoes get my vote! They are orthopedically supportive. You also might want to consult with a trainer to see about learning how to stretch your muscles.
