Yes. You are honest. You aren't sure about whether God exists or not, but you would like him to exist and be the loving God. I was that way for the longest time. Those that need him are wanting to know him if they are smart.
Yet you don't want to commit intellectual suicide. So is he or isn't he? The way I found out is by trusting him. I said the 'Sinner's Prayer and told him in my own words that I needed him. After that night, where I was all by myself, I began my life with God. That was over 20 year ago. You can do it too.
Here's the so called Sinner's Prayer, it's a part of a tract called 'Chick Tracts'. I don't think that all Chick Tracts are very good, but this one is, read it if you want to. At the end of the story, there is a form of Sinner's Prayer. Read it over to get an idea on what to tell God. Okay?
You can e-mail me if you want. I have a lot more to tell you and show you. ( :

I understand your feelings perfectly. We shouldn't believe everything that is written in the Bible. The Bible does not always teach. There are many statements in its various books that are there for historical, geographical, poetic or other reasons. However, whenever a biblical author intends to teach us something, then the Holy Spirit intends that too. Everything that the Bible teaches is without error, but everything in the Bible is not meant as teaching. Each author was left free by the Lord to express himself according to the ideas of his own day. It is the revelation contained in the Scriptures that is important.
Do you really want to know if the Bible is the word of God? Here is a time-tested method for uncovering the mystery of the Word of God: "the child of God (that's me) takes the Word of God (the Scriptures) into the presence of God (prayer) and lets the Holy Spirit of God (the Author) make that Word come to life for me and, more importantly, in me."
Another advice: if you want to prove to yourself or anyone else that the Bible is the Word of God, then I suggest you put the teaching of Jesus on forgiveness into practice. Forgive everyone, especially the people who have hurt you the most. If you find it difficult to forgive, ask God to help you forgive them. Pray for this every day, for weeks, even months until you can honestly say to yourself that you have forgiven them. Forgive also yourself - for the things you did and did not do. I guarantee you a miracle will happen in your life. If there is no miracle, come back to me and say the Bible is not the Word of God. I will believe you.
Peace and every blessing!

First of all, Christianity teaches that God loves you and wants what's best for you. The Christian faith is *primarily* about forgiveness, love, and compassion. With that in mind, it sounds like your heart is stirring you to learn more about God, about faith, about how to grow spiritually. These are wonderful impulses that need to be honored: they won't go away if you ignore them! Several ideas: read the Bible. Better yet, find a Bible study group where you can ask honest questions and get straight answers, without being judged or patronized. Finding a spiritual mentor can be helpful also; ideally someone older and wiser than yourself who will listen to you respectfully, not judge you, and accept your doubts and questions with respect. Incidentally, always be honest: with yourself, with God (in prayer), and with anyone else with whom you discuss your spiritual yearnings. Some churches and Bible study groups place so much emphasis on "getting it right" thay they can end up being judgmental to those who don't "fit in" or who ask too many questions. For your soul's sake, avoid such groups. Finally, I mentioned prayer: I can't emphasize enough how important that is. Share all your thoughts, feelings, questions, doubts, with God. Find a private place, a quiet place, and give yourself time to simply be silent with the Lord. At first it may seem silly or you'll feel self-conscious or you'll think "this is dumb, I'm just talking to myself." But don't give up. Remember, God's voice is "a still, small voice" which means you have to find your own inner quiet to hear God's whispers in your heart. Trust God and be kind and gentle with yourself. The spiritual quest is the most wonderful thing you'll ever do (and it lasts forever). God bless you!

Find a good Bible-believing church and get under the preaching of God's word. In the mean time, open your Bible and read the scriptures say;
Ro 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
I also recommend a good commentary like:
Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible
Matthew Poole's Commentary on the Holy Bible

First pray and ask God to reveal himself because you really waant to know him. Second turn to the Gospel of John (4th book) and read a chapter a day or at whatever pace is pleasing to you. After you read each chapter ask yourself
1) what does this say about Jesus? 2) What am I going to do about it? The Bible says all who seek will find and that promise includes you. Be prepared to make a decision because Jesus will show up. Jesus said, "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me." That door he speaks of is your heart but you have to ask him to come in because he will not force himself upon anyone.

Here is something for you. This isn't proof. Salvation comes by faith Faith and proof can coexist. Proof brings knowledge and no one can be saved by knowledge.. When knowledge come faith will cease. At that time no one will receive salvation.. But God hasn't asked mankind to have blind faith. He has given us evidence, strong evidence. It is then a matter of whether or not you will except that evidence. One of the best is found in Psalms 22:12-18
Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.
They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.
I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.
My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.
For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.
They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
I have been told many times that Jesus manipulated His life to make it appear that He was the fulfillment of many Bible prophecies. This one would have been hard to self fulfill. Hanging there on the cross in agony I don't think anyone would say "Guys don't tear that coat shoot dice for it" Even this is not proof, but it is a reason for faith.. Jim

Pray , and ask God in Prayer to guild you in the direction He wants you to go . Turn off the TV & the radio , find somewhere that is quiet ,and where no one will disturb you , and with a contrite sincere heart ask God to direct you . Once you Pray and request God to get involved in your life , let Him handle it . Don`t try to figure things out for yourself after you have asked God to show you the way , just stay alert to the things that come to you in thought that you know can only be coming from God Himself . You will know when He moves in your life !! Blessings to come !! *** Psalm 49 : 14 ..For this God is our God for ever and ever ,he will be our guild even unto death ... ** Proverbs 10 : 22 .. The blessing of the Lord , it maketh rich , and he addeth no sorrow with it ... ** Matthew 7 : 7.. Ask , and it shall be given you ; seek , and ye shall find ; knock , and it shall be opened unto you .

I recommend that you learn more about Christianity. Try reading some books regarding the proof of Christ's resurrection and early Christianity.

I know. It's like you know what you should do, yet you're just too lazy to do anything about it.
Well... stop that!
Christianity is not a bed of roses. God already did his part, you just need to do yours.
And... doing your part means trying your best, keeping your commitments and trusting God everyday.

Well, if you want a relationship with God, it should be one of love and gratitude, not fear, although it is right to fear consequences to our sins. Seek God with all your heart and you will find him. The Bible says so.
