Because it is not a religion. If someone does not believe, so what? Atheist don't group together like believers group together. I am actually turned off by either extreme. I dont care for someone that does not believe spending a lot of energy worrying or combating those that do. I don't like people who put religion in your face. I happen to choose the path of believing and liking the result if I am right better than not believing and finding out I was wrong. There is nothing about believing that will make me less of a person. I feel non-belief does not carry the same result in a general sense.
If you dont like strippers dont go, If you dont like church dont go, I dont care! But can someone please replace the Spines of Liberals? There is a guts shortage too, any donors? LOL

The whole purpose of atheism is it's a search for truth. It doesn't benefit us in any way, shape, or form to lie. It's very important to most atheists to maintain their credibility. When you lie, you lose your credibility.
Oh, and in response to the above poster, who claims that atheist really "secretly" believe in God and always ask for a priest in life threatening situations... that's B/S. I had a conversation about this very subject with my cousin, who is a doctor in a cancer ward. We talked about it because I have heard numerous claims from Christians who say they're ministers, or nurses, and that atheists always beg for God at the last minute. Her response? "That's B/S." (Only she didn't use the abbreviation--and she's a Christian, by the way.)

Atheists are really theists. Subconsciously they accept the evidence God exists. They are just in denial. That is the conclusion of many people who have studied atheists and atheism. I was a Eucharistic Minister for 7 years. I gave communion to the sick and the dying. Never did I encounter a so-called atheist who did not ask for a priest in a life-threatening situation.
For example atheists will never accept this incontrovertible proof of God's existence.
Albert Einstein, the most intelligent man the world has ever known, became a theist through his scientific discoveries. Einstein's theories have been thoroughly proved and verified by experiments and measurements.
But there's an even more important implication of Einstein's discovery. Not only does the universe have a beginning, but also time itself, our own dimension of cause and effect, began with the Big Bang.
That's right -- time itself does not exist before then. The very line of time begins with that creation event. Matter, energy, time and space were created in an instant by intelligence outside of space and time.
About this intelligence, Albert Einstein wrote in his book "The World As I See It" that the harmony of natural law "Reveals an intelligence of such superiority that, compared with it, all the systematic thinking and acting of human beings is an utterly insignificant reflection."
He went on to write, "Everyone who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the Universe--a spirit vastly superior to that of man, and one in the face of which we with our modest powers must feel humble."

Then it would make us no better then people like Kirk Cameron claiming he was once an atheist when most of the real atheists can probably see right through that lie (that has been used by many).

Why do you care whether or not people believe in God. If a Christian tries to convert you, they believe that they are saving you from eternal damnation. What would a Christian gain from being converted by you to atheism?
The truth is that the only reason you have to try is pure evil.
As for your question, you truly should not try to discuss with intelligence that which you have no understanding of.

The truth is on our side and it is starting to turn. Those half truths are the thing that will be the downfall of religion in the long run.

If we told the kind of whopping lies religion told, we would be, morally, no better than them. Frankly, I enjoy holding the moral high ground. We don't need to tell lies. Everything we really believe is backed up by scientific evidence. All the religionists have is their bible, which is all they offer for proof.

It comes as a shock to some people how brutally honest some Atheists can be, but I (along with several others on here) don't wish to force our beliefs upon other people. We believe in freedom to choose and believe in whatever a person wishes to believe in. If someone asks for information about Atheism, I'm more than happy to fill in the reasons. What irks me is when certain people wish to force their beliefs upon us and mark us as unholy or satanic in their eyes. Why even open that door?

You don't see the massive fighting retreat of the Creationists? They're down to "we haven't directly observed enough". All they've done is say that they won't admit they're wrong in their lifetimes. They're leaving it to their children to apologize for their lies. Reasonable people don't have to be atheists to see the lies and be embarrassed for the "devout" who defy their guiding principles to defend meaningless, discredited doctrines.
