Your question appears to be about Catherine de Medici.
European governments used to line themselves up with the Popes of Catholicism, but with the Protestant Reformation that began with Martin Luther, people began to understand that the Catholic church was not teaching doctrine as the Bible teaches it. This led to two different Christian religious parties. King Henry the 8th of England is the most famous king to break away from the Popes.
Catherine de Medici was a Catholic by habit and sided with the Catholics, but she opposed squashing them so that she could play one side against the other for political power reasons.

Who is this about? Joan of Arc? Well, it is a religious fight apparently whomever "she" is. She feels she's on the "right" side, so her actions were to prevent protestant believers from gaining more sympathy from the law, or gaining more believers, or getting more sympathizers in the battle or whatever the argument is about: basically it's religious politics I would say.

She was willing to do anything to make sure that her side won, and not the Protestants.

"She" was determined not to allow the protestants to get any advantage (over the other group).
