I desperately want to relocate, I'm bored with my current location and have nothing keeping me here. Now that being said, there is a guy that I'm "dating" that lives far away, and part of me wants to move closer to him to see if this "thing" can turn into something more substantial, but I also don't want to move half way across the country to be with a guy who may or may not be the one for me. Do I purposely relocate somewhere far away from him because what's the point, or do I move closer and take my chance. I'm going to relocate regardless, but are my emotions clouding my judgement?

Should have mentioned, I was planning on relocating before this man came back into my life (he was a friend that moved away for a job years ago, but there was always attraction there). I just find myself now only considering positions near him. I was planning on relocating now that I finally completed grad school.

Use the force, do a barrel roll. lol joking aside lets try looking at this non-emotionally.
A) would it be further for you to travel to work, or can you get a job easily
B) Is the reason your doubting your idea of moving based on the fact you cant trust your emotions or you are having doubts about the relationship
C) What would you be moving away from if you left.

If you take the time to concider these points (doing a negitive/positive tally may help) where does your decicion leave you.

Think it through, with both emotional and non-emotional perspectives and see where it lands you

Before you think about relocation scout out jobs in the area, if you find a good one, substantially better than the one you are in, go for it, it will provide monetarily the capability to do more things with your life, vacations, new car, more prestige etc and of course to get ahead in your chosen career field.

You might then meet new people, friends, boyfriends etc. and get a better outlook on life, as to the one you are in a long distance relationship with? You should first concentrate on making your self stable and then see if he is worth the trouble, who knows something else might come up in the process.

If you relocate do your homework, don't relocate with no backup plan or blindly because of a distant 'boyfriend'

If you plan on moving just do it. Think about it first make sure you are relocating for you. If you can't think of anything that can possible make you stay but everything you can think about pushes you to leave then do it. The only way you are gonna know is to stop thinking about it and move.

Life is Short - go for it - relocating close to "the guy" - if it doesn't work - it doesn't work - pessimism is clouding your judgement - take the chance - be optimistic - and enjoy your life - you don't need someone to make you happy - that's a job you personally can only do - GO FOR IT - !!

Move close but not too close. Maybe a few towns over. Don't tell him you are doing it to be closer to him. Have it be a better job or better place to live. Then live your life and see what happens.
